Lastolite LL LA2430 overview

  • 1Description

The Lastolite Trigrip Holder with Flash Bracket is an ideal accessory for shooting on the run. Functioning much like a photo assistant, the bracket holds an on-camera flash on a swing-away arm at one end and the molded Trigrip reflector or diffuser handle, secured with a strap at the other. The integral ball-joint is then employed to achieve the desired angle for the desired bounced or diffused lighting effect. The attaches to a standard 5/8"(16 mm) light stand stud.

    Lastolite LL LA2430 reviews

Trigrip Holder with Flash Bracket is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another good concept with serious flaw I purchased this product based on reviews online. This is an innovative idea well worth a look. It hold a flash at various angles. It works in hand or on a stand. It's pretty solid in construction and flexible in application. However, after a day in the sun -around 88 degrees - the self stick velcro let go under the strain of the elastic band which holds the handle of the TriFlip in the device. I have to ask, What were they thinking? Problem solved by removing the lame little strips of velcro and running another 2 wide strip of self stick velcro around three sides of the mount. This way the pressure from elastic band pulls against itself and probably won't release anytime soon. Had to disassemble the holder to fit it out but it only took minutes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handy device -- with shortcomings The swivel / ballhead is nicely machined and very well constructed, as it should be at this price. Unfortunately, the plastic bracket holding the actual trigrip is decidedly less fabulous. You can't clamp or screw the trigrip tight in the bracket; all you can do is secure it with a velcro strap (supplied). It works OK in most situations, but when the trigrip is at an angle of anywhere between about 170 and 60 degrees in relation to the ground, and there's any rockiness (caused by wind or vibrations), the trigrip torques under the gravity and can cause the velcro to work itself loose. Just as annoyingly, the ONLY screw that is captive is exactly the one that shouldn't be: the one holding the cold shoe on the flash bracket. The flash bracket has three lengthwise slits that look capable of holding that cold shoe, but the screw securing the shoe is captive in the rearmost slit, farthest from the trigrip. Thus, you can't move the flash appreciably closer to the trigrip. I still find this device pretty useful, but it really needs a version 2.0 that addresses its obvious shortcomings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great but overpriced What's wonderful about this is that it's a perfect way to hold the excellent Trigrips perfectly. What's not wonderful is if you only want the holder and not the flash bracket, you still have to purchase both. What would be ideal would be if they created 2 options- one trigrip holder WITH the flash bracket and one without so photographers (like me) who prefer to work in natural light dont need to shell out $ just for a reflector holder.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful, but could be better I purchased this grip to help me hold the Trigrip reflector for three different applications: To diffuse sunlight, as a reflector, and to soften the light from my strobes. I think it's a bit overpriced for its use and construction, but it does come in handy when there isn't an assistant available. So why even buy one? If you're like me, I absolutely love the Trigrip reflector/diffuser and this does extend it's functionality. I can see myself making modifications to it soon, such as adding foam to the inside of the reflector holder to make the grip more secure. I may even replace the arm that holds the flash since it does seem a bit flimsy. I may also replace the flash mount with a Stroboframe Hot Shoe flash mount. LC

Rated 2 out of 5 by from trigrip holder with flash bracket I was excited by the idea of this product to shoot my nikon flash through my tri-grip diffuser. No such luck. It will hold the reflector/diffuser fine and if you want to bounce the flash off of a reflector it will also work well, but the flash sits much too low to shoot through the diffuser. I am going to be cramming it into a vice and bending it to make it work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bracket This clamp performs as advertised, it is much larger than I had thought but its built well and will support the trigrip reflector series with ease. The only minor issue is that the velcro strip supplied seems a bit short but it still does the job. I read few negative reviews on this before I purchased it and I was skeptical but I am quite happy with it. The flash bracket is very useful when shooting through it for some nice light diffusion. I own two of these brackets and am happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tri Grip Holder withFlash Bracket Solves Trigrip holder with flash bracket is at first cumbersome looking but can be folded and adjusted to fit into small packing space. Ideal use for me is as a shoot through diffuser which with the Trigrip 1 or 2 stop diffuser makes soft box requirements disappear on location shoots. I've also used this to flash to bounce off reflectors for quality warm and cold fill light. The holder provides fully articulated joint-type action so you can create the flash direction you need even with limited space available. Great , low cost solution that is with me on every location shoot. I intend to buy two more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product Nice mounts and everything but the flimsy velcro that secures the tri grip in the bracket falls off after awhile and the sticky side (hook)became unstuck now is useless. Had to modify with a velcro strap. After that works great.
