    Westcott 2025 reviews

Halo Round Softbox - 45" (115 cm) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice light Very pretty light, I use it for indoor or outdoor location portraits also for weddings. My lighting assistant uses it on a monopod with a portable lumedyne head and a Pocket Wizard trigger, great for wedding groups and candid action. Sets up really fast compared to traditional softbox. Construction is a bit weak and not super durable. Mine broke within a couple of weeks and had to be replaced. Have to be more gentle with it. I wish it came with a storage bag, it is big and puffy when closed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this to others! This works just like a soft box but much easier and faster to set up. I was amazed at how accurate the skin tones are using this product. I can do a one light setup and I have absolutely no shadows. This is perfect for on the fly-location photography where you need something more than on camera flash but less than a whole studio set up. One negative aspect however is the lack of a storage bag. It is difficult to fold this up exactly how it came in the factory packaging. A soft nylon sleeve would have been helpful but overall, a very worthwhile product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great light, weak copnstruction There is no doubt this produces great soft light. I love it but durability is a big issue. Mine is now damaged on its second use. Be very very careful setting up as the umbrella arms will bend with very little pressure. I will be replacing this with something more durable which is a shame for both cost and convenience. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful clean light Great tool, and part of my on location kit bag. Set up is simple, but my only complaint is that like most of these umbrella soft-boxes, they are somewhat flimsy (in fact one arm bent on the first opening). Outside of that complaint, it does produce a beautiful light, and it is fairly wind resistent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portable softbox Light and portable softbox adaptable to off camera flash and other location lighting. Works very well and amazingly wind resistant.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Better options out there While the silver backing makes the unit very efficient for light output, I found it too cumbersome to work due to limited placement of a speedlight along the shaft. There's also no carrying case and I agree with another reviewer about it being quite bulky. I have since moved on to Westcott's 43" deep umbrellas which produce rounder catchlights and more ability to shape light. They also come with their own carrying cases. Having said all that, I do like the other umbrella-based Westcott offerings (28" Apollo, 16x30" Strip and 43" Octo).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It does the job. I expect to use it a lot. This light is great for general use. The umbrella section gives the light a wide coverage area that's helpful for shooting a small group. The silver lined softbox hybrid section boosts the light output. The Halo is lightweight and sets up quickly when you are in the field. If you are not going with a multi light studio type setup and are going to use a single light this would be the way to go.
