    AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 260.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than expected I have used Nikon 1.4x and 1.7x converters on the AFS 300mm f4D and 70-200mm f2.8 VRII. I wanted to get more reach since going FX with the D800. I was very surprised that with some AF fine tuning of +15 this converter is as sharp if not more than the 1.7. I also found increased sharpness by AF fine tuning my 1.7x converter. The sharpness, contrast and colors from this converter is superb. AF on both lenses is fast enough for birds in flight, well, slower birds like herons and swans. It also makes the 300mm lens even better for closeups of flowers and insects. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Highly useful product - with drawbacks I use this teleconverter with the Nikon 70-200 mm VR zoom lens. It is wonderful to have a 2x extension. The obvious disadvantage of using a Teleconverter at all, is the loss of light, not to be underestimated as this one delivers a loss of two full steps. In addition there is significant vignetting. This can be rectified fairly easily in Adobe Lightroom (and Apple Aperture I assume), but requires individual adjustment for each focal length. Other than that, copy specific settings to save time with stacks of photos. Despite these drawbacks of a two-step light loss and vignetting, it is useful to close in on a subject in a cheaper way than buying an extra lens. No comparison to the latter, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Large improvement This lens is visually much better than it's predecessors. I have several and this works much better with noticeably less degradation of the photos than before. For what it is worth I used this to make a very nice photo of a white heron at 260 yards w/ my sigma 300-800 (this requires a mod to the lens that will void the warranty, I however do not care much about that, YMMV) and was amazed at how good it held up. A surprise is that it does not seem to make much color aberrations or fringing compared to other teleconverters. If you need better or do not yet have one, this is the clear winner.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Soft Images and Poor Focus I use this with my 70-200mm fF2.8 telephoto lens. The best way to describe this teleconverter is inconsistent. Too many photos have a washed out look, and focusing takes longer and is not always accurate. I have not used this under challenging situations yet (i.e., sports, wildlife, etc.), but the few times I have used it to shoot people and places outdoors, I have been somewhat disappointed. I have used it in poor indoor lighting with a tripod (stage productions), and the results were o.k. Either way, it's an inexpensive way to get 400mm from a good 200mm lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nikon got it right I bought this teleconverter to use with a Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 lens on a D300 camera. Nikon says it won't auto focus with this lens. With enough light I find it does focus alright. In low light is may search some. Unlike with Nikons earlier 2x teleconverter there is very little lose of image quality with this version. I use this lens and teleconverter for bird photography, and it lets me get close. I am very pleased with this converter. The price is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential quality Nikon quality in a teleconverter. Worth the money and thensome! I have been using this with a 70-200mm VR lens. Theresult is a relatively inexpensive 140-400mm zoom with VR. Off brand teleconverters don't compare to this. Good combofor handheld wildlife shooting on the fly. Rated 5 out of 5 by from TC-20E III 2x Teleconverter I recently purchased a Nikon TC-20E III 2x Teleconverter to use with my 70-200mm f/2.8 VRI Nikon lens. I have had the opportunity to shoot various wildlife (a lot of birds in flight) and I am extremely impressed with this teleconverter. It has performed well in low light, gives me the reach I need, focuses fast enough to capture fast moving birds, and the image quality has no discernable loss. I am very happy with the teleconverter's performance and highly recommend it to others seeking more reach without compromise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic! Better then expected I take wildlife photos primarily and I bought the Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 to go with my D300. After hesitation based off reviews I also purchased this teleconverter. So glad I did! I do not use a tripod but brace on what ever is available (primarily knee, trees, posts) and the photos still turn out crystal clear even in poor light. This gives me incredible range and can use software to zoom in with no visible quality loss. Only con I have found is it slows the auto-focus down a little. But already has become a must have for me!
