With a generous objective lens, a stable image, and a housing designed to withstand the elements, the Solo 10x36 Monocular from Vortex is suited to birding, hiking, hunting, travel, sightseeing, concerts, sports, theater – anywhere you want a good look at distant details. The Solo's 8x magnification has plenty of power for long-range observations, but is less susceptible to image shake than higher powered optics, and the 36mm objective has light-gathering power for a bright image even at low-light times such as dawn and dusk. This combination of magnification and objective size yields a wide 60° apparent angle of view – that's nearly 400 feet at 1,000 yards. This monocular also offers a very useful close-focus distance of just 16.4 feet.

A built-in utility clip makes it easy to hang the monocular on a belt, strap, or pocket when you need your hands free. The rubber-armored housing is O-ring sealed to keep out water and dust, and is purged with nitrogen to prevent internal fogging no matter the conditions. The twist-up eyecup and 18mm eye relief make the monocular comfortable for people who wear eyeglasses. And at 4.9 x 2.6", it's easy to carry and store.

8x36 Solo Monocular is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Lookin' Great for spotting birds, and picking out interesting spots in the night sky. Brighter than the human eye, so the night viewing is spectacular.Primo for glasses-wearers, with long eye-relief and adjustable eyecup. Easy to adjust so the viewing is just right. Tiny compared to equivalent binocs; very important if one also has a long telephoto lens. This is big prism and big lens, so it's bound to be much heavier than the next-smaller model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would buy again I bought this for my bikepacking, hiking, and kayak trip - loved it! More compact than binoculars, great view, strong metal snap clip for belt. Great for moosewatching. Only negatives: Lack of lens caps (I may find some that fit & secure with elastic), and; the case, which is more bulky than necessary, but not useful, the snap for your belt is wimpy, comes undone, and it it not fully enclosed, so it doesn't keep out dirt, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid product I bought one after taking a trip to Central Europe and standing at the top of the Petřín Lookout Tower wishing I had brought a monocular or binoculars for sightseeing. Its small, light and easy to carry in a pocket. I have taken it camping and to the rifle range. It performs as expected. I am not an optics expert but its light transmission at dusk seems better than I would expect at the price point I paid. On the downsides, like all monoculars its never going to be as good as a pair of binoculars due to how the human vision system works. Also the neoprene case it came with is not as well made as I would like. It presently lives in my car's glove box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! Crystal clear optics, I am amazed at how good the optics are on the Vortex! The size and feel is great for an 8x36 and the belt clip is made very well. Worth every penny and to be honest the build quality is so good, I think it was a great deal! The only con is that the case is junk, open sides that do not protect it from dirt and a belt snap that will not stay snapped at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear, high quality Clear optics, easy to use the focus ring. By far superior to another 7x32 that I have and a world apart better than a standard 10x25. The view is wide and clear, VERY sharp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice optics I lost an eye this summer (wear your safety glasses), so I figured there was no need to carry bulky binoculars. Good crisp optics. The clip is large and sturdy. Not sure if I will use it (its removable). Solid and well made. The case is worthless. Not sure about the strap either. Far more compact that binos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feel in the hand, but..... I purchased this for walking/hiking with my dog it's much easier to grab and go than my pair of binos, and so far has been great for spotting wildlife. Only two gripes and one is just because I have large hands- while the belt clip is very heavy duty it interferes with my grip and has been removed and the other would be the focus ring. It is tight but I suppose the adjustment(once made) will stay put. No fault warranty A+++
