Shure SM58 overview

  • 1Description

The Shure SM58-CN Vocal Microphone features a unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic vocal design, well suited for professional vocal use in live performances, sound reinforcement, and studio recording. A built-in spherical filter minimizes wind and breath "pop" noise, while the cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while minimizing unwanted background noise. The microphone offers durable construction, a high-quality, internal shock-mount system, and a steel mesh grille for withstanding rough handling. The SM58-CN is designed to perform consistently both outdoors and indoors, and when used for singing or speech applications. The microphone includes a microphone clip , a 25' XLR to XLR microphone cable, and a zippered pouch.

    Shure SM58 reviews

SM58-CN Vocal Microphone with Cable is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Durable Microphone I purchased two of these microphones for church use, primarily vocal music and spoken word. The construction quality and durability are great. And the sound for voice is very good. I especially like not having to worry about an occasional drop or bump. The included cable is satisfactory, but it has a stiff jacket that prevents it from staying flat on the floor, creating a tripping hazard. I would probably purchase a different cable with a soft elastomeric rubbery coating that will stay flat on the floor. I marked this purchase down one star because of the cable quality. The microphone is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most durable microphone there is The SM58 is our microphone of choice when voice recording. I teach from beginning to advanced students in high school media production classes and this mic can handle them all. It's great for beginners that haven't learned about accidentally recording background noises yet. With its cardioid pickup pattern, it helps to eliminate unwanted sound while isolating what they do want to hear. In addition, it also cuts down on handling noises for the students that are still a bit careless with holding the mic. It also continues to be the best choice once the students are ready for more advanced projects wherever voice recordings are concerned. I have been using the same SM58s that I purchased when I began teaching seven years ago and they continue to perform as well as they did back then.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value vocal mic Novice at home recording - this mic is great for an easy and top-quality vocal sound. Can't be beaten at the price point. I'm not sure if the mic is great at much else other than vocals which is annoying if you're on a tight budget and want a single all-purpose mic. SM57 is probably better in that respect (I've heard it can get a decent rock vocal sound)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rugged Utility Mic! This mic is built like a tank, very rugged and tough. Bought two of these to use in general purpose church vocal music and spoken word. I like the design and the audio quality. The output level is relatively low, partially due to not being a condenser mic. Make sure you have loud sound levels or good gain in your preamp. The included cable is fairly stiff, and it will not lay flat on the floor like a good elastomer-based cable. I might skip the cable and buy a good quality cable separately next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always a good choice The 58 is the workhorse of microphones. You can put it in front of anything and it won't let you down. It's not always the best choice if you have other mics available, but if this is all you have, it's still a good mic to use. This one comes with a cable for a few dollars more, which is worth it, especially if you're buying many of them at once. I bought five of these to keep in my inventory for rentals and the occasional musician or speaking gig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged, great sound B&H came through with a great package and a great product. We use this mic at church and it gets passed around and manhandled, yet others like it have held up and sound great. Will buy again when the abuse gets out of hand!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable & worth it Plugged the mic into the cable that came with it, then got a little adapter for next to nothing. Plugged into the line-in/mic slot and I was away. The sound came through very clear and not much latency. Brilliant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Real Workhorse! The industry standard. Very durable, great value. Not THE most hi-fi mic available, but VERY good sound, and good feedback rejection. Most importantly, it can take a droppin' and keep on rockin'!
