    GigaPan 600-0005 Reviews

EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really bad mounting hardware I have not had the chance to use the Epic Pro yet, because when I had charged the batteries and was about to mount a camera, I could not release the quick mounting plate. As I tried a bit more, the plastic arm that holds the plate broke. This is just bad craftmanship. On any good tripod you find a solid metal arm for mounting your camera. Here, it is plastic!!! Come on, even if it had worked the first time, whidh it did not, it would not work for long for people who need to mount and unmount their cameras. The rest of the unit seems to be nicely made but how can I know? My first impression is that it is bad, and I had so high expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All day shoot I use this for VR HDR nodal panoramic photography. (Gigapanning with a Canon 7D and Nikon D300. I use up to 360 mm telephot shooting as many as 9 bracketed shots with as low as 40 degree field of view with a 128 GB CF card. It takes less than 10 minutes to set the camera and Gigapan head up and shoot a session that takes as many as 10,000 shots in one session. I would never do that without this device. It pack easily in a 15 inch laptop briefcase along with attachments and extra batteries. The only thing bad about this product is the company never returns calls or emails for product help. They are very prompt when ordering accesories such as extra batteries.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Performs as designed, BUT . . . I've never done panoramas before so I may be a little short on details a more experienced person would know. On the plus side, the GigaPan Epic Pro performs as it should. was intuitive to set up and easy to use. On the minus side, it is bulky, heavy, has no carrying case and makes a shrill noise that I found unacceptable. At first, I thought something was wrong with the unit; but, I discovered the shrill noise is normal for this unit. Therefore I returned it and got the iOptron iPANO AllView Pro. It is much less intrusive where quietness is important. It is also lighter, more stable and has a nice, over-the-shoulder carrying case which the GigaPan does not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent but one major annoyint thing The Gigapan is a great tool for taking panoramas, it is easy to use, and is generally well built. BUT, the unit I received had a plastic latch for fixing the camera mount, and it broke as I tried to open it. Considering that the camera mount is one of the most important things when to use a tripod or even this robot, I find it ridiculous that this bit is so cheaply made. The reason why I still give 5 stars is that I have been able to use the Gigapan, and it operates nicely, and also that Gigapan responded quickly, promising to send a spare part. I do look forward to using this equipment and make some awesome panoramas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! The Epic Pro is fairly simple to use and has great features - such as automatically figuring out the angle of view of each lens, etc. It can do multirow panoramic shots with ease. They have automatic shutter release cables for most cameras - except my Leica S2 (grrr). I have been using it with my H4D50 Hasselblad with success, but weight of the cameral/lens seems to test the Epic Pro - only being able to firmly hold its position when the power is on. Also, I found the standard clamp loose and not sufficient to hold a heavy camera. To fix this you must get the EPIC Pro Camera Mount Vice/Clamp.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Interesting Hardware, Poor Support So I bought my Gigapan Epic Pro years ago. I've used it a couple of times, but not recently. A couple of years ago they did a promotion with the PromoteControl and I bought that. I also bought their Windows Capture software that's supposed to control the device. Needless to say, I now feel betrayed by the company. They were bought out by Omega-Brandess in October 2014 and no one has been able to get support from Gigapan in months. DO NOT BUY unless you want an item that apparently you can no longer get support, software updates, or fixes for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mounting hardware is cheaply made The quality of the robot is excellent. The quality of the mounting hardware? Garbage. *The lever mounting hole was crooked, the screw was stripped (this little screw is all that holds the lever in place - and the lever locks your camera!) Mine arrived with the parts rattling around in the box. The mounting system is a rip-off of the Bogen/Manfrotto plate system, only the Bogen is much higher quality.I honestly don't know it I'll keep this robot - I DO NOT trust the mounting system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Pano/Gigapan Photography! Very easy to use and take stunning panoramic images with resolutions in the gigapixel range! Has many new features over old models & can support up to 10lbs! Took me 15 min. to learn how to set it up and I completed my first 162-photo pano in 20 min! I would HIGHLY recommend, however, buying the Arca-Swiss camera mount as the supplied plate is made of plastic and after using it once I knew I would be breaking it in no time at all just from tightening my camera down to the Epic Pro.

Will this mount trigger an Olympus OMD EM-1 ?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The GigaPan RM-UC1 Trigger Cable for the EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount, B&H # GI5104500, would be the correct cable to allow the GigaPan EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount to trigger the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Is it all right to mount this on a ball-head, or will the weight and multiple movements cause the head to slip.
    Asked by: Anonymous
I would suggest a direct mount to a tripod plate. Skip the swivel mounts. The unit does shake a bit with a heavy lens. I use heavy Manfrotto pods.

Hi,I would like to know what is the best lens to use with the epic pro? Especially for subjects at distances of 500m or more. Also what is the biggest lens that the epic pro can accommodate if I'm using a Canon 1Dx camera?
    Asked by: Anonymous
It depends. Telephotos will give you detail, they will also foreshorten the depth. You need to balance between the two. Take shots of the main area of interest with different focal lengths to help you make that determination.
