    Photek HSD-60K Reviews

Softlighter Hot Shoe Diffuser Kit with Umbrella (60") is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Portable Modifier I just got this modifier this week, and I used it for the first time for a client shoot and it was spectacular. I did lots of research prior to investing in this, and once I saw that this is what Annie Leibovitz uses for her environmental portraiture, I was sold. Like a reviewer before me, I thought about getting the individual pieces for cheaper, but I decided to just pay more for a full setup that was ready to go with my speedlight out of the box. It produces the most stunning soft light even with just one strobe, and was so quick and easy to set up and break down. I can't wait to use it for more moody, artistic shoots in the future. My new favorite piece of equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative to a softbox! I did a lot of research on different softboxes, knowing only that I wanted one that had a round(ish) shape (so no square catchlights) and that I wanted it to be big enough to feather lightly and allow very soft light since I do sessions with newborns and children a lot and want the light not to be harsh at all. This kit was recommended to me by another friend who is a professional photographer. It is basically an umbrella flash kit with a huge twist! You can use it as a shoot through or bounce back umbrella, but you can also add the extra front baffle and bounce inside AND diffuse out... making the light beautiful and dreamy soft. I got the kit so that I could use it easily with my Speedlite. I know that there are ways to buy the pieces separately and save money and still rig it to work with a speedlite, but I didn't want to mess with it. This kit comes with a front baffle that has a large velcro opening so that you can put your SL just inside it and secure the velcro, leaving your settings panel exposed for ease of use. I love it! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new light modifier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love the light I LOVE the shots I am getting with the softlighter. The light is as large and soft as advertised. I have one complaint. The overall build quality is good with the exception of the threaded tightener for the umbrella shaft. It is a metal bolt-end that presses on the rounded shaft of the umbrella to hold the umbrella to the bracket. This is an inadequate design for an umbrella of this size. There is little contact and friction at this critical point and the entire umbrella and flash can move too easily when moving or contacting the umbrella. I would still strongly recommend the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and great quality of light This is possibly the biggest light modifier you can get for compact speedlites, setup is easy and most important thing is, the quality of light is great. V high price performance ratio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big, happy soft light Theses my second one and I love it. Good compromise between an umbrella and softbox and it's freakin' huge! Big, big soft light from speedlites. Only thing I don't like is that the umbrella center pole (spine? trunk?) is necessary to fold and store the thing, then once it's setup you unscrew half of it and put it in the bag. Be very careful you don't crush the hollow rod with the stand head or the other half won't thread back on and you can't fold up the umbrella ever again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Soft light! I purchased the Photek Softlighter Hot Shoe Diffuser Kit With Umbrella (60) to use with my Nikon SB-700 flash. With the Softlighter I can now produce beautiful diffused lighting reminiscent of a north facing window. I've only had it a few weeks but have used it on a couple of occasionins, one with a human another a set of tests.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soft light indeed Works well. Not sure if the 50% bump in price for the strobist version is worth it. Simply a twenty dollar umbrella mount and a off-center velcro slot in diffuser (vs the centered sock in the regular version). In all fairness I cannot say that I have used the regular version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, chap way to add great soft light. This peace of gear has DRASTICALLY changed the quality of my photographs. I wanted a large flash source, but i wasn't ready to buy a full flash kit. This mixed with my 430ex II is all i need for now, especially quick set up head shots and portraits. I cant recommend it enough.
