Tiffen 77PTP overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 77mm Photo Twin Pack consists of a UV Protection filter and Circular Polarizer.

UV Protection Filters
UVHaze (UV) filters are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection. Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. Ultraviolet filters allow you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees. Haze-1 filters absorb approximately 71 percent of UV.

Circular Polarizers
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems)

    Tiffen 77PTP reviews

77mm Photo Twin Pack (UV Protection and Circular Polarizing Filter) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 136.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Excessive flare of UV Protection filter I just received the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm ED VR lense from B&H. This 77mm Tiffen twin pack was included as no extra charge. At first I thought that was so nice of B&H to include this bonus with my purchase. But as it turns out, including this filter pack was a mistake on B&H's part as it just led to a waste of my time. The UV Protection filter flares excessively and should be recycled rather than used in any optical system. I just replaced this inferior filter with the Nikon 77mm Clear NC Glass Filter, which functions beautifully. I doubt I will ever try the Tiffen Circular Polarizing filter as Tiffen has such a black eye from producing the junky UV Proetction filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Green Blotch A few years ago I bought a Tiffen 52mm UV and realized all my images taken with the filter was rendered with green streaks in the lower left corner of the images. I swore I would never use Tiffen again. Few days ago I received my 24-70f/2.8 and 70-200f/2.8 that came with two (02) 77mm Photo Twin Pack. I mounted the UVs on the lens, took a shot with the 24-70mm and there it was; the green blotch. I took four (04) more shots and the blotch was present in the same spot. I didn't even bother to try the other UV or the polarizers (I'll make a conscious effort to remember never to use Tiffen. I've owned and used B+W and have never had a problem. A bit pricier but worth every penny!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 77mm Photo Twin Pack by Tiffen I am new to photography and wanted to purchase filters for my 24-70mm Canon lens. Not wanting to spend too much money as photography equipment can be expensive, I purchased the Tiffen UV protection and circular polarizing filter twin pack. The price could not be beat. I recently took a trip to Arizona and am pleased with the vivid colors of my photos after using the circular polarizing filter. My skies are blue and the removal of glare from my water photos are beautiful. There are many polarizing systems available and the prices vary but I am please with my twin pack purchase. I will definitely get my money's worth from circular polarizing filter!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally Practical Definitely a good bargain. When buying filters, it is makes the absolute most sense to go with 77mm filters. Consider this; You have a lens with 58mm threads, and another with 62mm threads. As a photographer, a circular polarizer is a fairly essential filter. Two options; A)buy two different sized filters, one for each lens. B) Buy this Tiffen set, (very reasonable price) and get a UV filter thrown in, and get two very inexpensive stepping rings. Now you have one nice polarizer that will fit any lens you will have for years to come, only needing to buy different sized stepping rings for pennies on the dollar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Security of Mind! In situations where you have the time to think and compose (e.g. shooting landscape/architecture), you might not necessarily need filters since you're probably pretty careful with your equipment. However, if you're like me and you shoot events where people are bumping against you and you don't always have the time to pop on and pop off the lens cap, then these filters are perfect for you in that they will protect the front element of your expensive investment. The circular polarizer is also great for landscape photography and helps liven up the colors even more!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing flares Received the twin pack as a freebie with the purchase of a lens. The gesture was nice, but the quality of the glass was disappointing. Put the haze filter on the lens as I like to protect my expensive glass purchases. First time I tried to shoot a full moon discovered large green flare spots in my images. Removed the haze filter and the flares went away. Won't be using the haze filter again. There's a reason other brands that are far more expensive are the best bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filters: protection & color These 2 filters came with my new medium zoom lens. I use the UV one to protect the front surface of the lens from blowing dirt, raindrops, etc. The polarizer has improved the color quality of my images. I leave the UV on all the time, but replace it with the polarizer when outdoors with bright colors are desired or there are reflections from snow/water/glass. They were bundled with the lens, but I'd have bought them separately if they weren't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal! Great filters! Since I buy both kinds of filters for a lens, it was great to see a twin-pack offered by Tiffen. I always keep a UV filter on the lens to protect it; a filter is cheap to replace, but my lens is not. And I put the polarizing filter to use to cut down light (when necessary), to change the sky color, and for cutting reflections in water--an extremely handy accessory! I have noticed no problems with image quality or flare from these filters.
