Make your D850 work

The D850 is great, but if you use a D5 battery it will be even better. I have both (D850 and D5). While the D5 is still faster, this really wakes the D850 up when you need the extra power. A little bit of a shame it is not included with the MB-D18, but it's fairly inexpensive compared to the camera, grip and battery.

I just want to make sure I have this straight. If you have the MB-D12, you can purchase this chamber cover and an EN-EL18a battery to expand the power capacity (going from an EN-EL15 to this 18) of my D810?

The New EN-EL18a battery is compatible with the MB-D12 battery grip with the BL-5 battery chamber cover, yes. Nikon doesnt list battery life with the new EN-EL18a, but with the older EN-EL18 they estimate 1,400 shots by CIPA standards. With the EN-EL15 they estimate 900 shots by CIPA standards.

No, BL-5 not required.The MB-D12 as shipped will accept a Nikon EN-EL15 battery, the same battery that the D-800, 810 body uses.The BL-5 permits use and fitment of the Nikon EN-EL18a battery, used in the D4
