FEISOL CT-3472LV Rapid M2 Reviews

Very Satisfied!

Very well built tripod. Lighter than I thought it would be. I have a lightweight carbon fiber tripod for travel. This will be for my landscape photographs. Will work great with my Acratech GPX ball head.

Externally this tripod looks pretty good. Light and sturdy. However, inside the tubes of the legs lies a poor design and potential problems after some use: system of very fragile plastic rings that WILL eventually break and make the tripod unusable unless you order new sets of rings from FEISOL. These are cheap, but the shipping will cost you US$30 every time you need replacements. Be also aware that oner same model, some times has an old and a new version, with the same code! If you are not aware of this fact, you will end up having to ask for a new set of rings and pay for a second shipping, as happened to me!

Cheap out. Pay the price.

Weve all done it. Youre looking for a new piece of equipment and you convince yourself that you can get by without the best piece of gear. I fell victim to this thinking with a recent purchase of this Feisol Tripod.  I was looking for a new portrait tripod and got onto the CT-3472LV-V2 as an option. I also looked at several Gitzo and Really Right Stuff models. The Gitzos and RRS models were more expensive of course, so I convinced myself (like countless others before me) that the Feisol would be good enough to get the job done. As is always the case, when you cheap out you pay the price. For me, the price was a near miss with $30K of camera and lens on the tripod during the first use. When picking up the tripod to move it during a shoot one of the legs dropped clean off just as I set it down. In an instant, everything started to tip. I got lucky and managed to grab the camera and lens before it crashed to the ground but needless to say, I now have zero faith in Feisol products. It was easy to overlook the minor issues with fit and finish but a catastrophic failure like this is inexcusable for any tripod. When I reached out to Feisol to share my story, they didnt  seem too alarmed or surprised. They clearly understood it wasnt good but they had obviously seen the problem before. They offered to repair the tripod and shared that when theyd faced this issue in the past, that the repair resolved the problem. Pretty alarming that this could happen at all. More alarming that this wasnt a one time incident. Given this, I opted for a refund but the shipping and administrative costs ended up costing me about $120 to get my money back and I’m pretty sure this tripod will just end up getting fixed and resold. Thats the tax you pay for cutting corners. What is most frustrating is that I made this mistake despite talking to peers and reading dozens or reviews by those who advocated against purchasing anything but the best tripods. I should have listened. When it comes to tripods for professional use, just buy Gitzo or RRS. Dont buy anything else. In the end youll just buy the better product anyways and if you get really unlucky, you might watch your livelihood crash to the ground.

Perfect Tripod

Fist it is longer/taller than most. For my portrait work I only need to extend the first two sections, and I am 6" tall. For landscape work the extra length is wonderful. The self leveling part is in two area. First a center column that is easy to operate, and second a 10 degree tilt on the center column, which is easy to grab and adjust. Works perfectly. For portrait work I can adjust on the fly and keep my subject at the right angle. I use mine with an Arca Swiss ballhead with the classic clamp. This really tops off the light weight and flexible Feisol tripod.

Would buy again.

CT-3472LV is a great tripod for me

I watched a number of youtube videos regarding this tripod and was a little concerned at first. I wanted a stable carbon fiber that will be with me for a good while. I also bought the VH-60 horizontal adapter arm kit made by Feisol. I admit, they are bulkier than I thought they would be, but man are they sturdy. One reviewer said his legs would not articulate properly from the center head. I have not had any problems with mine (so far). I love the long extendable center support rod and the four piece leg set. Everything is very solidly built. One feature I really like about this tripod is that you can invert the legs and mount your camera like 1 inch off the ground surface for macro work. The price point was also appealing to me vs the Gitzo or RRS units. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Cheap is expensive and expensive is cheap

I bought the three leg tripod 3372LV, essentially the same as the 3472 except it has three instead of 4 legs. It is light and the specs are wonderful. I bought it with the Feisol 50DC ball head to be used with my large format camera. The sales team, Michael, was easy to deal with, at the NY Photo show, however my wonderful experiences stopped the first week I used the tripod. I wanted a sturdy tripod for large format photography, 4x5. The first time I used it, on a photo trip to the Canadian Rockies, the leg collapsed and luckily I was able to catch my camera before it hit the ground. I had to improvise the entire trip and wrap the leg with duck tape. I notified Feisol, explained that the tripod collapsed the first time I used it. They suggested I misused it, I insisted that it fell apart the first time I used it. I asked that it be replaced, I didn't ask for a refund, because I feared it would happen again and this time I wouldn't be so lucky and catch it and would damage my camera. Ebony 4x5 and Rodenstock lens. Feisol wouldn't consider replacing it, said it was repaired and shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately I lost confidence in this tripod. A new $600 tripod shouldn't fall apart the first time I used it, good practice would have ben to replace it and keep a happy satisfied customer, my experiences are similar to other users experiences. The tripod fell apart the first time I used it. The unit should have been replaced. Although others have had good experience with these tripods and I really wanted to like this tripod reading other's experiences and my own has caused me to lose confidence in the tripod and the company. So initially I saved some money, (cheap) but now I will be selling it, losing money any buy another tripod and lose more money (expensive). So as much as I wanted to like this tripod I don't like it now and am very disappointed with how this matter was handle.

Completely fell apart after 1 year of light use

This tripod completely fell apart after 1 year. I had to manually reassemble it on-site on actual jobs at least 3 times when it completely fell apart. One leg has been problematic almost from the start, and cannot be fully extended or retracted, causing alignment problems. This tripod has slowed me down on the job, embarrassed me in front of clients, and completely wasted my money in general. Do not buy this product if you want something reliable.

I do a lot of shooting on ice along the shore line of Lake Superior...does anyone know where I can get retractable spiked feet that fit this? question

I HAVE THE FEISOL CT-3472LV Elite Rapid Carbon Fiber Tripod with Leveling Centre Column - Question: The leaving centre column works great for levelling but I can't for the life of me figure out how to 1. lock it in place so it does not rotate or 2. raise it for a higher positon and lock it down. Does it not do those things or do I have a defective levelling column?
Asked by: Laurie Anne
The bottom rubber piece adjusts the tension in the leveler. The metal ring on the top of the center plate will allow you the adjust the column height.

Yes, Dmitri, the VH-60 is designed with the larger FEISOL tripods in mind.
