Umbrella Diffuser for Parabolic Umbrella is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great accessory and here's the trick to mounting it... As others have mentioned, this is a great accessory for your 7' Parabolic. An easy to transport and setup alternative to a soft box. Well worth the money. I use it with both the white and the silver umbrellas and liked it so much that I bought another. Here's the trick to mounting it quickly and single-handedly. Do NOT try to mount it to a fully opened umbrella - that will require two people. Just take the closed umbrella and insert it through the hole in the diffuser, tip first, until the umbrella is completely inside the diffuser hole. With the umbrella pointed to the floor, reach through the hole and slowly start to open up the umbrella. As the umbrella opens, it will apply equal pressure to the elastic band and then you can right the umbrella and lock it in the open position and the diffuser will be taut and even. Then you can mount the umbrella shaft onto your light. No need for two people!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful addition to a 7' parabolic Earlier I purchased the 3-umbrella special bundle from B&H (basically 3 for the price of 2!) Working with them a bit, I wanted to be able to soften the silver reflector to approach the light from the white (for large groups). This is an inexpensive addition to the parabolic, and makes the light very much like a Photek Softlighter (but HUGE :-)). It's incredibly easy to put on (elastic, and fits easily on the parabolic, with a port for the strobe/speedlight that can be tightened with a drawstring). Really glad I bought it - B&H, maybe you could consider bundling it with your 3-pack of Westcott parabolics? It does not come with any kind of carry bag - so mine now resides in a (large) ziplock bag...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A tip for setting up... For those of you struggling to set this up (citing the need for two people), here's the trick: DON'T attach it to the open umbrella. Close your umbrella and slide it (starting with the point) through the opening in the diffuser until it is completely past the opening. Point the umbrella toward the floor and reach through the diffuser opening with your other hand and open the umbrella fully. The umbrella will provide even tension against the elastic in the diffuser and when you lock the umbrella in the open position, the diffuser will be taut. Now just mount it on your light. This diffuser is a great, inexpensive addition to an equally great, inexpensive modifier (the 7' parabolic). It would be nice if it came with a case, but a big ziplock will do fine. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT alternative to a soft box Need soft light from a large source? If I could have only one light modifier I would use this one. This turns a Wescott 7' silver bounce umbrella into an extremely useful and very cost effective light modifier. I'm using them with 580 EXlls but they will work quite well with any strobe or cool continuous light source. I highly recommend you give this a try.It takes a little patience to fit this onto the umbrella if you're working alone because as you get one side onto the umbrella face the other side wants to come along. It isn't too bad though and it would be a snap with two people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great product! Recently at a class seminar we practiced using the parabolic umbrella. The light was great for the way it spread out and could light a group plus the background! (Great for weddings!)but I didn't like the harshness of it. With the front diffuser panel the light becomes much less specular. I am thrilled with this product and will buy another one for my other umbrella. Thanks Westcott!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Soft Box low $$$ The diffuser converts this umbrella into a big soft box with a big zone of very soft light. So if you in a small shooting space and who isn't, you put it all the way back in one corner or the other, you stay out of the way of the light so you don't cast a shadow on your subject and shoot. You have quite a bit of latitude because the correct exposure is a big zone at the other end of the room. The inverse square law is working for you at this distance. Another option is to bring it up close directly behind you in which case light goes past you on each side and you cast no shadow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful light I have the black and silver 7' umbrella and until I bought this I thought its light was harsh. I didn't use it as much as I thought I would. I put this diffuser on it an I got the beautiful light I thought I should. I've only had it for 2 weeks and already used it in 6 shoots both indoors and out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great The light seems to spread a lot better with this diffuser and the silver parabolic umbrella. I initially had 3 speedlights attached to Impact FA-300HS Triple-Flash Hot Shoe Adapter Mount, but this diffuser would only allow one flash to go through the hole. I guess you need the Wescott umbrella triple flash mount to get 3 speedlights into this set-up. Anyway, I went back to using one speedlight and realized that now the entire umbrella is filled with light. Can't wait to try it out on a job.
