LensCoat RainCoat Reviews

Protects a short lens, but the rear opening is very wide

The sleeve length is designed for a body and a small lens - say a 100mm macro or shorter wide angle lens. But the rear opening is huge, making the rear of the sleeve almost as tall as the sleeve is long. For just carrying a camera round on a strap, that massive opening lets rain in unless you cinch it down. With an R7 and RF 24-105 STM, I didn't have enough fabric to fold the sleeve around the body without holding it closed with my hand. But if you cinch it down you need to fiddle to take a shot. It seems designed for tripod work where the camera would be mounted at eye level and the large rear opening would make it much easier to work a camera. TL;DR: Designed for a tripod use with a short lens. If you're carrying a body around without a tripod, the large rear opening will let your equipment get wet.

Not very protective

I found this to be practically useless. I should note that I was hand holding the camera, still the covering did not stay in place and operating the camera was difficult. If you use it solely on a tripod, your results may be different. The bottom line is that it did not really keep my camera dry.

What is roughly the diameter of the front and rear openings?
Asked by: BH
I guess Ill have to answer my own question. The front (lens) opening is ~7 in diameter. The rear is ~5 (13cm)). This can easily fit a Canon R5 with an L bracket and a 28-70mm f/2.0 (a huge lens) and still need cinched up a fair amount. Its still almost too baggy. I imagine this could hold a large camera, with a battery grip, like a Canon 1 series, without trouble.

Will this work with a Nikon Z6ii and a Nikon Z 24-70 F2.8 lens and lens cap used? or should I go with the Medium size instead? the length of the above appears to be about 10.25". thanks
Asked by: John A
The small would probably work, but why not go with the medium. It gives you extra length out the rear which doesn't hurt anything and will help on a windy day.

question

I'm looking for a raincoat for an Fujifilm XT-20, and this is the smallest size I could find. Is it still too big? I can see it maybe working with the 55-200mm lens, but what about the 18-55 and 35 (f/2)? Does anyone know of a more adequate alternative? Thanks.
Asked by: Michelle V.
This would be your best option to go with for the X-T20.
