Fujinon XA20sx8.5 Overview

The Fujinon XA20sx8.5BERM-K3 ENG Lens is an 8.5-170mm lens, designed to provide 2/3" format cameras with a wide to super telephoto angle-of-view. The lens has a 20x zoom ratio, and a 2x extender effectively doubles the focal range. An ergonomic, digital servo zoom control is also included.

Internal focusing minimizes the effects of lens breathing, which ensures a more consistent focal length when adjusting focus. Fujinon's QuickZoom technology improves zoom speed to 0.7 seconds end to end. With the push of a button, QuickZoom facilitates a rapid shift to the telephoto end to check focus. Releasing the button automatically returns the lens to the previously selected focal length.

SO HOPEFUL, but not good with BM URSA G2 Broadcast Camera

This lens seems to work well for some users with Sony and other cameras, but it unfortunately it does not play nice with the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 Camera. It has really bad green and purple chromatic aberration at various focal lengths, particularly the longer end of the lens. I did extensive tests, shot in many different environments, contacted Blackmagic support and shared test clips with them, added shims, among other things. I suspect the issue is that the B4 lens mount on the URSA G2 has glass elements in it, and the lens just doesn't match well with this particular camera, but it's unclear and I cannot say for sure why the chromatic aberration occurs. It's unfortunate, because the 8.5-170mm focal length + 2x extender combined with a very fast f-stop is SO flexible, and the price point is amazing, but it seems a little too good to be true. Oh well. Back to the drawing board!

This lens is a huge value. It's sharp, it's versatile, and it comes at a great price point. We have it on a Sony 1500 running 1080i 59.94 and are very pleased. Rarely have to engage the doubler but so glad it's there. Highly recommend this lens with the MS-01 controls.

I am looking to use this Lens on a Canon Cinema ...

I am looking to use this Lens on a Canon Cinema Camera , using a B4 2/3" to Canon EF Adapter from MTF Services. When using the MS-01 Zoom & Focus remotes, are the remotes able to plug directly into the lens? Or do the remotes need to speak to the lens through the camera?

The Canon MS-01 connect to the lens directly. Please note to add a two handle tripod so you can mount the lens controls.

Would this lens work with the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K ...

Would this lens work with the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 in 4K? Would the image look soft or not that noticeably different?

The Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 Digital Cinema Camera would not be able to film in 4K using a 2/3" lens such as the Fujinon XA20sx8.5BERM-K3 ENG Lens as its 2/3" sensor capture is limited to 1080p. The Blackmagic Design URSA Broadcast G2 Camera, B&H # BLURSABCG2, would be needed for 4K recording with a 2/3" sensor lens.

Will it work with the Blackmagic Design STUDIO CAMERA 6K PRO?

With adapters, and power, as well as control you could connect the Fujinon XA20sx8.5BERM-K3 ENG Lens to the Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 6K Pro. However, the suggested camera when using B4 lenses is the Black Magic Ursa Broadcast G2. The Ursa comes with power support, as well as the B4 mount for Broadcast lens mounting. B4 lenses will not pass any electronic information to the lens and it would be all manual. You would need to add controls. As well as supply power to the lens.
