Fujinon XA20sx8.5 Overview

The Fujinon XA20sx8.5BERM-K3 ENG Lens is an 8.5-170mm lens, designed to provide 2/3" format cameras with a wide to super telephoto angle-of-view. The lens has a 20x zoom ratio, and a 2x extender effectively doubles the focal range. An ergonomic, digital servo zoom control is also included.

Internal focusing minimizes the effects of lens breathing, which ensures a more consistent focal length when adjusting focus. Fujinon's QuickZoom technology improves zoom speed to 0.7 seconds end to end. With the push of a button, QuickZoom facilitates a rapid shift to the telephoto end to check focus. Releasing the button automatically returns the lens to the previously selected focal length.

SO HOPEFUL, but not good with BM URSA G2 Broadcast Camera

This lens seems to work well for some users with Sony and other cameras, but it unfortunately it does not play nice with the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 Camera. It has really bad green and purple chromatic aberration at various focal lengths, particularly the longer end of the lens. I did extensive tests, shot in many different environments, contacted Blackmagic support and shared test clips with them, added shims, among other things. I suspect the issue is that the B4 lens mount on the URSA G2 has glass elements in it, and the lens just doesn't match well with this particular camera, but it's unclear and I cannot say for sure why the chromatic aberration occurs. It's unfortunate, because the 8.5-170mm focal length + 2x extender combined with a very fast f-stop is SO flexible, and the price point is amazing, but it seems a little too good to be true. Oh well. Back to the drawing board!

HUGE VALUE: Sharp, Versatile

This lens is a huge value. It's sharp, it's versatile, and it comes at a great price point. We have it on a Sony 1500 running 1080i 59.94 and are very pleased. Rarely have to engage the doubler but so glad it's there. Highly recommend this lens with the MS-01 controls.
