I bought this primarily thinking it might provide a little more weather protection for the flash port, and the bubble level would be a nice "plus". I wasn't expecting something to provide a robust seal, just be a better "umbrella" over the whole thing, more than the usual kit "sliders". This doesn't quite meet that objective. While it covers the sides of the port well, it doesn't cover the gap at the front of the port. If this level had the same groove on the front that it has on the sides, it would work better for this purpose.
The level worked well for leveling the camera. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it fell off. I was out in the field and went to level my camera and the level was gone. Oh well, it was cheap—I wasn't going to let it ruin my day. About a week later I was sweeping my driveway when I found it lying there on the ground. Apparently, it had fallen off while I was loading my equipment into the car. I still use it, but I no longer leave it on my camera.
