    Nikon GP-N100 reviews

GP-N100 GPS Unit (White) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent GPS for the V1 This is an excellent accessory for the Nikon 1 V1 Camera. Plugs directly into the accessory hot shoe port and doesn't require any cables. It also doesn't appear to impact the battery life of the camera, probably due to the high capacity of the EN-EL15. One great feature of this unit is that it supports the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) protocol, which allows you to upload GPS positioning data for a three week period directly into the unit, which enables much faster acquisition. You do this with a free utility downloaded from Nikon's website. Great feature. A great value for the V1, grab one while they're still available!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent GPS option for the V1 The GP-N100 is a great little unit for the V1 - super low profile and the integrated connector make it quite unobtrusive and you'll be more likely to leave it on the camera full-time.The best hidden feature is the ability to upload assisted GPS files to the unit via your computer. Just download the free utility, plug the GPS unit in and click the button. These updates give you two weeks worth of satellite date that allow your GPS to acquire coordinates much more quickly - basically turning 20+ seconds worth of wait time unassisted to 3-4 seconds. Amazing feature!B+H by far has the best pricing on these as well. Get one before they're discontinued, like the V1 recently was!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It just works. First of all It just works. It clips into the funky hotshoe provided by Nikon and when you turn the camera on it starts to aquire a signal. When the flashing LED turns from Red to Solid Green you have a good GPS Signal and the data will be written to the image. You do not get heading information (No Electronic Compass) However the data appears to be accurate to within 10 ft as far as I can tell. Now for what they don't tell you. As in Nothing mentioned in the documentation that arrives with the GPS.In order to get the fastest signal lock on the GP-N100 GPS uses what is called Assisted GPS. There is a small file that you can download to the GPS inorder to do this you need to download a utility from Nikon. It is called the GP-N100 Utility. A quick Google search will find it.You need to install this on your PC then with the GPS attached to your camera Insert the supplied USB cable into the GPS and your PC. Note the GPS needs power from the Camera to be recognised by the PC.These updates need to be done every couple of weeks in order to allow the fastest signal lock-on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So that's where I took that shot Very helpful when cruising or touring. After a while pictures of mountains and Fjords can look a lot alike and need referencing to date and time to identifiy a location. With the GPS data embedded in the file you no longer lose track.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dead-on Accuracy Prior to buying this GPS unit, I had been manually geo-tagging many of my photos in iPhoto. It is a little slow locking in its location when first turning on the camera. I believe this can be corrected by using assisted GPS (included). I've not yet tried that. The location data coordinates well with Google Maps in iPhoto and seems to provide pinpoint accuracy as shown when zooming in on satellite imagery. This device is saving me lot's of time precviously spent manually geo-tagging my images.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice addition to outdoor photography Would have preferred to record local time instead of utc

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well and fast The device works well and fast. The one downside is that it reads out altitude in meters, not feet. There is no choice in that matter as confirmed by Nikon Even considering that the output shows up in ViewNX 2 in the location subfile there is still no way to convert to feet other than with a calculator or pen and paper. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, low profile I use GPS on all my cameras so I can recall the precise place images were captured long afterward. This module is priced reasonably, works well and doesn't have any cables to break or tangle up in the strap. Of course, it will be awesome when GPS is a standard feature that doesn't involve add on dongles and extra cost.
