Westcott Deflector Plate for Rapid Box

Yes, the following item will work with the octa-m rapid box.

The screw is a 5mm, 0.8mm thread pitch (coarse), 10mm long threads. The head appears to be made to accommodate tightening with a coin. If you don't care about having the same head configuration a replacement could probably easily be found at a hardware store. Screw it in tight & leave it.

The center of the plate is a touch smaller than 8mm. And the plate is not designed to work with the softbox without the screw and bolt.

Yes, it needs to be removed. But, it is very quick and easy to do, and it stores in the pouch along with everything else.

I've found that you can use it both ways and get slightly different lighting effects. Personally, I find that I get more even light coverage when I set it up like the Westcott site. The flash also seems to have more power this way. (Maybe because a lot of light is getting bounced back at the flash head by the concave side and towards the reflective sides of the box by the convex side of the plate?) Play with it both ways and go with the results you like better.

Agree, longer is probably better for most, but with my darker skin subjects trial and error always saves the day, unless Im shooting film.

I'n not an expert, but I would say that the deflector plate is just the one size because the reflector is built for a Speedlight-sized flash (and not a big studio flash)and only a small Speedlight-sized unit will fit through the hole. Remember also that you can always use the Rapid Box without a deflector at all, but the light is not as dispersed and might cause a hot spot. Hope this helps.

The A1s will not work with this particular one. The back of the box is cut out specifically for a flash head to go into. The deflecrornplate actually screws into the inside of the box at the top.... thinknof the deflector plate as something that would go inside of an umbrella but at the very top of the inside FYI this box is amazing just with flash
