LensCoat RainCoat 2 overview

  • 1Description

To protect your camera and telephoto lens from the elements, use the RainCoat 2 Standard Camera Cover (Realtree AP Snow) from LensCoat. This product affords easy access to camera and lens controls while deflecting water, snow, salt spray, dust, sand, and dirt. Constructed from a lightweight waterproof and breathable poly tricot material with tape-sealed seams, this cover also features an integrated storage pocket and left side foldaway arm sleeve for easy access to lens controls and manual focus operation. This standard-sized RainCoat is designed for use with DSLR cameras with lenses ranging from 100mm to 400mm f/5.6 telephotos.

Cinch straps are incorporated into the front and rear of the cover for quick and easy installation that can be sized to fit your specific lens. The two side pockets both reveal foldaway arm sleeves for protected camera access. The rear of the cover allows for unrestricted access, and the bottom has a hook-and-loop fastened seam for attaching to a tripod. This product is made in the USA.

The Realtree AP Snow pattern is primarily white and features a subtle pattern of leaves and branches that is well-suited to outdoors shooting during the winter.
Cover size is well-suited to DSLRs with standard-length telephoto lenses, ranging from 100mm lenses up to 400mm f/5.6 focal length lenses.
Lightweight, waterproof, and breathable poly tricot material with tape-sealed seams protects the lens and camera from rain, snow, salt spray, dirt, sand, and dust.
No-slip rubber is added to the front section to provide a solid grip on the lens hood without the use of a bungee cord.
Cinch straps adjust the total cover length by folding the material over itself and keeping the cover snug on variable sized lenses.
Two integrated side pockets reveal foldaway arm sleeves for easy access to camera and lens controls.
A hook-and-loop closure runs along the bottom of the cover to permit the use of a tripod or monopod, as well as manual focus control on the lens barrel.
The size and shape of the rear opening can be adjusted for greater protection or for easier control access. The design of the cover also does not require the use of a dedicated eyepiece.
A mesh storage pouch is included for packing the cover when not in use.
Compatible with optional LensCoats, Hoodie lens caps, and camera BodyGuards.

    LensCoat RainCoat 2 reviews

RainCoat 2 Standard Camera Cover (Realtree AP Snow) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Cover for your investment I'm rating this a 4 only because on this model I believe they could have positioned the hand access slots differently. Who knows it may just be me. So enough about that, this cover is great. I use it on my Canon 7D with a 100-400 lens or 70-200 lens. This cover with the additional lens cover protects my equipment from dust and moisture when I'm out. I looked at a couple other covers and nothing compares to the features this one has. Just buy it and quit worrying about your equipment when you have it out in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Now Relish the Rain I used to fear taking my equipment out in the rain, but no more. With the LensCoat RainCoat I actually relish it! The LensCoat RainCoat provides complete protection to my camera and whichever lens I have on it. Outstanding quality, it's soft, easy to put on, easy to use in the rain, dries quickly, and stores nicely in a small, convenient pouch (provided with RainCoat). I found the video about the LensCoat RainCoat 2 on the LensCoat website to be helpful on how to put on and use the RainCoat. The front of the RainCoat fastens securely to the front of my lens hoods. For those zoom lenses that rotate as they zoom, the RainCoat will rotate as well because it is securely attached to the front of the lens/lens hood. No problem, the rotation isn't that great and it does not impair the performance of the RainCoat at all; just be aware that it will rotate. I shoot a lot of auto racing photography, and weather cannot be avoided. But the LensCoat RainCoat 2 has solved all my problems with wet weather. I believe it will solve yours, too. A really top quality, well engineered product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good protection First off is price..steep for the amount and quality of material but anything that sheds water is expensive. Next is use. I wrap up my Canon 100-400mm push/pull zoom. There is a hook and loop (Velcro) at the very end with a rubber type material on the inside to grip the lens hood. That does a VERY good job and hasn't slipped off yet. Then there is another hook and loop (velcro) strap about mid barrel. THe zoom capability with the push pull is hampered slightly depending on how tight you strap this 2nd Velcro around the lens tube. There are 2 hand sleeves, for operation of the controls but you had better know what they are without looking. There is no way to see them without pushing the camera end of the covering back for viewing. THis exposes the cAMERA TO THE ELEMENTS. The entire Lenscoat is PLENTY long for my 7D Mark II with this lens. There is a cinch on the end of both hand openings and the camera end which all fully close if need be. There is also an AMPLE opening (again with Velcro closure) on the bottom to accomodate the camera being mounted to a mono or tripod. NOT sure about mounting a gimble head. The con(s) beside price are the fact you can't really see lens controls and to see through the eyepiece of the camera you need to push the cover back some. IF you use LIVE VIEW, then this is not a problem. I do not so for me it is a bother to some degree. IT is a simple device which comes with a carry bag. It does fold up small. The hand openings also roll up and a cover using velcro holds them when not in use. I would say it is a small stretch to say this cover offers RAPID use of the camera. FOr me, it isn't rapid but I guess it all depends on your definition of rapid. For the cons, I give it only 4 stars. IT does what it is billed to do. It DOES protect the camera and lens and it DOES shed water. KEY for someone like me who photographs wildlife rain or shine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Protection I used this on my camera for ground level photography on the beach. It did a great job keeping the sand off my camera. I did not use the hand pockets as intended - only to manage my zoom. For the controls I push it back - it was not raining and I was not in the surf so no need to cover the body or back of the camera. If used that way, you really must know your camera buttons by touch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Easy to put on. Has 2 places to insert your hands.. Trigger finger and manual focus finger hands. Back has generous overhang so water drips off 4 inches away from back of camera. I would not leave camera unattended with this in moderate rain. This is drizzle, fog stuff only. Thinking this is my solution to proctect lens and camera in antelope canyon, beach, star trails shots in cold temps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps your gear dry I'm using with a Canon EOS 1DX and 70-200 and 300 mm lenses. It's perfect when shooting on a tripod. It works just as well when handholding. The two hand sleeves provide access to all controls while the back can be cinched up to protect the camera. The only negative is it's cumbersome with shorter lenses, but works in a pinch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Cover Using this cover with a Canon 60D with 70-200. I really like the positioning of the arm holes they give excellent access to the control. It also works great when using a viewfinder like a Zacuto for monitoring your screen. I was actually shooting a paintball tournament in the rain as the test run. I held up great and kept everything safe from rain and paintballs. It worked great with a monopod as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems like it will be perfect. Purchased to use in Alaska this summer at Lake Clark. All LensCoat products that I've purchased in the past have been 5 star and I'm sure this will be too. It fits perfectly and was simple to use when I gave it a test run.
