New Sonos Products for In, Around, and Outside the Home

Sonos users who have been waiting for a battery-powered speaker they could use outdoors with the rest of their system will be excited about the Sonos Move. The Move has a built-in battery and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling you to use it nearly anywhere. AirPlay 2 connectivity is also built in, making the Move Apple friendly. It can be controlled through the Sonos app or via Alexa or the Google Assistant, thanks to its onboard microphone array.

If you’re within range of your Wi-Fi network, it’ll stay in sync with the rest of your Sonos or AirPlay speakers and you can use Alexa or the Google Assistant to control it; if not, you can stream to it via Bluetooth. The Move has an IP56 rating, meaning it’s resistant to humidity, rain, snow, dust, salt spray, heat, and cold, allowing for safe use outdoors. A built-in handle on the back makes it easy to carry around.

The Move isn’t the only new Sonos speaker to hit the market; the One SL, available in black or white, also features AirPlay 2 compatibility, and the same Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity familiar to veteran Sonos users. It can be paired with another One SL for use as a stereo pair or used in the traditional Sonos multiroom setup. You can also use two One SL speakers, or one One SL and one One, as rear surround speakers when paired with your Sonos Playbar, Playbase, or Beam. You can control the One SL with the Sonos app or Siri, thanks to AirPlay 2.

The final new member of the Sonos family is the Port audio streamer. Like the Sonos Connect, the Port allows you to connect your legacy audio equipment to the rest of your Sonos network. Plug your turntable, CD player, or cassette deck into the RCA input on the Port and stream to your Sonos speakers; you can also plug the Port into your stereo system via its RCA or digital coaxial output to sync it with the rest of your Sonos system. The Port’s 12V trigger output can power-on compatible stereo systems when it detects an audio signal.
