Wedding Photography with the Sony a7R VI Mirrorless Camera

Wedding Photography with the a7R VI Mirrorless Camera

Wedding photography is a blend of genres, sort of a marriage (pun intended) between portrait, street, and occasionally even landscape photography. There’s always a bit of mystery when it comes to lighting, and we need to be ready for anything. In a reception hall, you may dimly chandeliers, bright LEDs, or even pulsating, colorful strobes from the DJ booth. All of these variables, and you may not be able to use flash! What can you do?

Enter the Sony a7R VI. To accommodate low light shooting, the camera comes equipped with 8.5 stops of image stabilization—that’s half a stop more than its predecessor. With this advantage, photographers can shoot handheld in a variety of conditions, no matter how dim the lighting. Additionally, the fully stacked sensor and its incredibly fast readout speeds allow for completely silent shooting without worrying about rolling shutter.

For those inconsistent lighting conditions mentioned above, the a7R VI features a new AI-based auto white balance system that uses deep learning-based scene analysis to be able to identify multiple light sources on an individual basis and correcting for each one. Whether it be the reception hall or the ceremony venue, your shots will come out clean.

We haven’t even talked about the 66.8MP fully stacked sensor! Sure, we mentioned that the sensor was stacked, but that resolution is surely something to gawk at. All that detail can produce exquisite large format prints, plus, it offers unrivalled crop-ability, so even distant shots can be refined in post with minimal loss to image quality.

Even hybrid shooters will be taken with the a7R VI, as the video specs have seen a significant overhaul. 8K 24/30p with 2 hours before overheating is just the cherry on top. The camera also offers 4K at 60p and even 120p with a crop, whereas its predecessor could reach such frame rates in FHD. Not to mention that it can record in S-Log, S-Cinetone, and use active mode stabilization for smooth, shake-free footage.
