Interfit Unleashes Compact 320Ws Honey Badger Studio Strobe

The honey badger is one of the most fearless creatures in the world, and it looks as though Interfit wants to be just as fearless with its desire to take on established players in the lighting industry, with feature-rich and affordable strobes—this time with the Honey Badger 320Ws Compact Flash Head, which weighs just 3 lb and measures 5" wide by 6" deep. It looks impressive, considering it is completely self-contained, features wireless triggering, and has great speed and durability, all of which combine to make it an outstanding choice for your studio.

The key to any strobe is the quality of light provided and, in this case, we have a decent 320Ws rating along with a 7-stop power range, letting you bring it down to just 5Ws in 1/10-stop increments. It is also fast, and when set to full power, it has a recycle time of just 1 second and a t.1 flash duration of 1/900 second. The glass dome is frosted, as well, ensuring that light is spread evenly. Along with this, the Honey Badger features a 60W LED modeling lamp that is equivalent to a 300W tungsten bulb, making it useful for video and photo purposes. The lamp is flicker-free and is set to a daylight-balanced 5600K for a better representation of the flash’s color.

These features are all swell, but for photographers wondering if they can mount all their favorite accessories, you will be pleased to know the Honey Badger has a standard Bowens S-type mount. That isn’t all, however, because the strobe also has a built-in pop-up softbox ring, and it even comes with a 24" softbox to get you started. This system is set up for speed and ease of use, and it makes it easier for users upgrading from their speedlights to jump to a studio strobe. The flash will also be available as a 2-light kit.

The built-in radio receiver of the Honey Badger is similar to the one built into the S1 and S1a, with support for manual triggering via the optional S1 TTL Remotes. There is also a new S1 Manual Remote being released today for simpler triggering of the S1, S1a, or Honey Badger. It even offers remote power adjustment for your lights and can configure up to 8 independent groups for elaborate setups. There are 15 channels available, as well, for minimizing interference across the unit’s 320' range. The remote can even control the modeling lamps and audio signals of your strobe. Additionally, it has a standard 3.5mm sync port for connecting to other systems, and runs on either two AAA batteries or AC power through the micro-USB connection.

Saw a honey badger.  I did note how "fearlessly" Interfit ripped off the original Buff Digi-Bee design, almost right down to the pc board layouts.

I suppose that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.  I can't imagine that the folks at Buff are very much comforted by that.  IMHO, to out-and-out steal an innovative design in order to make it more cheaply across the pond is just, plain, low-class, and speaks volumes about the character of the company perpetrating the theft.  I wouldn't want to do business with an organization having no scruples...
