The Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. Lens is a completely new offering in Panasonic’s MFT lens line, and offers an extremely versatile 16-36mm equivalent focal length, great for street, architecture, and landscape work. The Lumix DMC-ZS70, on the other hand, is an update for an impressive and compact point-and-shoot, using a higher-res 20.3MP 1/2.3" MOS sensor, an outstanding 24-720mm lens, and an updated features list.
Entirely new, this 8-18mm lens is reminiscent of the classic DSLR zoom lenses with its 16-36mm equivalent range, but it can offer comparable performance at a fraction of the size and weight of those lenses, thanks to its Micro Four Thirds-specific design and f/2.8-4 variable aperture. Panasonic also managed to pack a variety of its high-end technology and features into this zoom, including a Nano Surface Coating, one aspherical extra-low dispersion elements, three aspherical elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, and one ultra-high refractive index element. These specialized optics will help reduce the impact of flare and other aberrations. A lightning-fast 240 fps autofocus drive is present, as well, ensuring speedy and accurate AF tracking with Panasonic’s mirrorless camera bodies. That isn’t all—the 11.1-oz lens has a durable metal barrel that is splash-, dust-, and freeze proof.
For photographers looking for a take-anywhere multimedia dynamo, the ZS70 is a stellar option, with its 30x Leica DC Vario-Elmar optical zoom lens with a 24-720mm equivalent focal length and a newly developed 20.3MP 1/2.3" MOS sensor. This outstanding reach and built-in 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S. make it an ideal travel companion for those looking to capture high-resolution stills and UHD 4K video. It also wants to ensure comfort for a variety of shooting styles by incorporating both a 0.2" 1.166m-dot EVF and a 180° tilting touchscreen, along with a Control Ring on the lens for natural control over certain settings.
As a hybrid camera capable of stills and video, it benefits from advanced processing and features, including 4K PHOTO, 4K Post Focus, and Focus Stacking.
