Sigma Adds Four Canon RF APS-C Lenses to Contemporary Line

Sigma announces the addition of four new Canon RF lenses to its Contemporary line in 16mm f/1.4 DC DN, 23mm f/1.4 DC DN, 30mm f/1.4 DC DN, and 56mm f/1.4 DC DN focal lengths. Sigma's Contemporary lenses are designed to promote performance in compact and lightweight form factors, and these latest primes continue this philosophy by offering a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture across four popular focal lengths.

At the wide end, the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens provides a 25.6mm full-frame equivalent focal length, a perspective popular with street, architecture, and landscape photographers. The lens achieves greater clarity and color accuracy thanks to its two special low dispersion elements and three F low dispersion elements to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations.  Two additional aspherical elements are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.

Moving up in focal length, the 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens has a 37mm full-frame equivalency, which puts it on the wider end of the normal-length perspective. Also popular with street photographers in search of a less distorted angle of view, the focal length benefits travel and everyday applications. Three SLD elements and two aspherical elements help the lens deliver sharp, accurate results. A minimum close focusing distance of 9.9” allows for close-up photography and wide-angle portraiture. The lens also supports in-body image stabilization and lens-based optical corrections when used with supported cameras.

On the other end of normal-length range is the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens, which brings a 48mm full-frame equivalency and an angle of view considered closest to that of the naked human eye. Again, the lens’s optical elements promote sharpness and accuracy, this time with two aspherical elements and one high-refractive index element. The focal length also benefits full-body, environmental portraiture.

Finally, the 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is the group’s official portrait-length prime, with an 89.6mm full-frame equivalency. One SLD element and two aspherical elements boost the lens’s optical performance.

Meg Loeks

All the lenses feature a stepping autofocus motor for fast, precise, and near-silent performance in both photo and video applications. The bright, f/1.4 maximum aperture across all four lenses is benefitted by a rounded, nine-blade diaphragm that produces the characteristic smooth and pleasing bokeh. All the lenses sport a super multilayered coating to minimize lens flare and ghosting and produce contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery. The lenses are also weather sealed for use in inclement weather.
