Here at B&H, we are excited to be stocking products from Aston Microphones, a new UK-based manufacturer. Offering two mics, the Origin and the Spirit, Aston aims to deliver high-quality, hand-crafted products that look as good as they sound.
The Origin is a cardioid condenser microphone that utilizes a 1" gold evaporated capsule. It is versatile enough to use with most instruments, such as acoustic guitars and strings, and sounds great on vocals. Its hand-selected capsule is combined with transformer-less circuitry to deliver accurate sound reproduction.
The Spirit features multiple polar patterns and also incorporates a 1" gold evaporated capsule. A switch on the mic body selects omnidirectional, cardioid, or figure-eight patterns, allowing for flexible sound capture in a wide variety of miking configurations. The capsule is teamed with high-end transformer balanced circuitry, designed to deliver an open sound with sparkling harmonics. The Spirit aims to deliver natural and transparent recording, capturing all the detail in the high range without the harshness that some condenser microphones tend to add.
Both microphones have a built-in, mesh-knit pop filter in the wave-form head. The weave allows sound to pass while reducing unwanted plosives. This single-piece, mesh cage is formed of stainless steel, so it won’t rust with use and can even be removed and washed.

Do they have mini-jacks to fit my Canon G-30? If so, are they smaller than the rather large Canon wireless mic that is hard to hide as a lapel mic?
Hi Gene -
These microphones require 48V phantom power not provided by your Canon HF G30 camcorder. They could be used with an adapter like this one:
