For a while, Universal Audio has been on a mission: to give serious musicians and engineers access to the sound of classic tube, transistor, and transformer-based gear—and now the company has done it again with its new Apollo Solo interfaces, available in USB and Thunderbolt™ 3 configurations. Specifically designed for people who want a stellar, professional sound at home, these interfaces offer two inputs and four outputs of UA’s phenomenally-spec’d signal path, including impeccable AD/DA conversion and Unison preamps for tracking with the sound of vintage prizes and modern classics.
One Solo is outfitted with a Thunderbolt™ 3 connection for Mac and Windows systems, while the other offers USB for Windows computers only. Between the two connectivity protocols, no modern engineer will be lost in the dust. Both interfaces offer the same studio-quality specifications that make Universal Audio gear a must-own for so many professionals.
The Universal Audio platform gives you a portal into a world where the sound of Neve, API, SSL, and Manley preamps are accessible and switchable at the click of a button. That’s just the preamplifiers—the UAD world offers models of so much gear, from classic Moog filters to color pieces like the Culture Vulture. Pultecs, prized guitar amplifiers, and authentic Fairchild emulations are all accessible in the UAD world. And, with these new Apollo Solo desktop interfaces, you can track through many preamps and guitar models in your bedroom studio. A built-in UAD-2 SOLO Core processor will let you mix through all the rest.
Recently, Universal Audio released LUNA, its free, macOS-based recording platform that communicates with UA interfaces and provides switchable analog summing engines modeled on classic consoles, as well as integrated multitrack tape saturation. LUNA offers Neve and Studer tones as optional LUNA extensions if you crave the character. You’ll have access to instruments from Moog and more. Realtime Monitoring will allow you to track and mix within Luna’s intuitive confines and unlimited channel counts, letting you instantiate any third-party AU plug-in you desire, as well.
Needless to say, you’ll have free access to LUNA via the Apollo Solo on a Mac computer.
If that sounds like a bargain to you—it is. Both Apollo Solo Desktop Interfaces are available now, so swing by our SuperStore or check one out online today.
