It’s fall, and you know what that means: Universal Audio has some new, exciting interfaces. Okay, that’s not what fall means, but Universal Audio still has these great pro audio interfaces, and we here at B&H are proud to carry them.
First up is an all-new take on the Apollo Twin. Called the Apollo Twin X, this unit is a 10 x 6 interface communicating with computers over Thunderbolt™ 3 connections; now, if you use the Apollo Twin X with a MacBook Pro, there’s a chance you don’t have to buy a separate adapter!
More important are the AD/DA—both paths are now borrowed from one behemoth of a cousin: the same Apollo X rackmount interfaces found in many a pro studio. With two Unison preamps, you can imbue your sound going in with many of UAD’s famously wonderful analog emulations, some of them user-indistinguishable from hardware.
This unit is designed to grow with your studio needs; you can combine up to four Apollos and six total UAD-2 devices, giving you a larger channel count and more DSP in the UAD universe as your studio grows.
With a front panel Unison-enabled Hi-Z input, the unit lets you record your guitar or bass through countless priceless chains. A built-in talkback mic facilitates communication with your artists and performers. Connect other devices over ADAT/SPDIF, expanding the I/O without sticking to the UA ecosystem, if that’s what you prefer.
It comes in Duo and Quad configurations, which refers to the amount of DSP you’d prefer packed into your Apollo. More DSP means more plug-in power for UAD’s fantastic line of hardware emulations.
Next up is the brand new Apollo x4, a 12 x18 Thunderbolt™ 3 interface with four Unison mic preamps, Quad core processing, and more. The A/D and D/A path are also up to snuff: they both provide a resounding 127 dB of dynamic range, doing so with a low amount of total harmonic distortion and noise, -117 dB to be exact.
A built-in talkback mic is included, and you’ll really appreciate the expanded I/O over the Twin. Two headphone outputs and two Hi-Z instrument inputs facilitate collaboration. The Apollo x4 is also expandable, so as your studio grows, you can add UA interfaces to the fold.
