In this segment of Show Us Your Shot, filmmaker Sophia You, Executive Producer Samantha Tan, and Creator Jenna Lam guide us through the filming of an episode of Ambitious, a web series about an Asian-American girl who cannot seem to find a place where she feels she belongs. In the final scene of the series’ finale, she placed the two main characters inside a frame within a frame to suggest that they cannot escape the situation in which they find themselves and must draw closer to each other, literally and metaphorically, to have an honest conversation. The scene is neatly tied up with a final dolly shot that gradually reveals the full surroundings, to emphasize the characters bonding after their honest conversation.
Sophia You’s Bio
Sophia You is a director, screenwriter, and photographer based in Philadelphia, PA. She is currently a Senior at Temple University, majoring in Film and Media Arts. A short documentary she made, called, The Artist, as well as an award-winning dance film she directed, produced, and edited, called, Metamorphosis, have been selected and screened at a variety of film festivals in the United States, including the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival. You is very passionate about incorporating her unique style in the works that she creates, always striving to express her own voice and stand out among fellow filmmakers.
