Sigma expands their novel autofocus cine lens line with the new 28-105mm AF Cine T3 full frame zoom lens, available in E-mount or L-mount with markings in feet or meters. Based on the optical formula of the popular DG DN Art photo lens, this AF Cine version is compatible with both advanced autofocus systems and traditional 0.8M pitch gear manual focus systems.
You can use the 28-105mm as a traditional manual cine lens with a geared focus ring, zoom ring, and clickless aperture ring, all with damper at the ends of the rotations. Switch the lens to autofocus mode, and a quiet HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor kicks in for fast and reliable tracking. This versatility was previously only seen in the 28-45mm T2, and it’s nice to have it in a lens with a 3.75x zoom ratio.
Expect an 82mm filter thread, a 95mm front diameter, a 12-blade aperture, and a T3 to T22 aperture range. The AF Cine 28-105mm is 6.3” long and, like the photo version, extends while zooming. The lens has a 15.7” minimum focus distance, measured from the camera’s sensor. It weighs 2.9 lb, versus the photo version’s 2.2 lb. A lens support foot is included.
