Live multi-camera shooting, an area usually reserved for television studios and large events with expensive equipment, is being brought within reach of mere mortals by Mevo, with its Live Event Camera. Leveraging the experience of the brains behind Livestream, the Live Event Camera combines recording and streaming facilities with live switching.
Spec-wise, Mevo built the Live Event Camera around a 4K sensor, which sits behind a 150-degree field-of-view lens for a wide recording area. We’ve heard this all featured before in action cameras, but what makes the Live Event Camera special? Well, to say it’s just a camera is somewhat misleading. The Live Event Camera is operated via a free iOS app, and inside this app is where all the magic hidden inside the camera comes to life. With all the functionality packed into the app, this diminutive camera, smaller than half the size of a common beverage can, becomes a micro TV studio powerhouse that leverages the 4K sensor for live-switching up to 9 virtual camera angles at 720p resolution, with each angle composed of part of the full 4K image. The app allows you to cut between the virtual cameras and provides real-time virtual camera controls, like panning, tilting, and zooming, which can be done in real time with simple touchscreen gestures. The final product is recorded to a micro SD card and can be sent back to your phone for immediate uploading or sharing. If you have a subscription to Livestream’s professional streaming service, you can broadcast your event in real time using a Wi-Fi network or your Phone’s LTE connection.
The camera body itself is purpose-built for live events. The bottom of the camera is tilted for tabletop placement. The tilt angles the lens away from the table so the surface itself doesn’t dominate your shooting area. Using the included mounting accessory, the camera can be placed on a standard microphone stand or a photo or video tripod. The low-profile body design, which will be available in Black or White, is unobtrusive, so this camera might even find its way into a wedding or corporate videographer’s bag.
Mevo will also be bringing out the Boost, which is an extension that fits on the bottom of the Live Event Camera. The Boost extends the battery life of the camera to approximately 10 hours, and also makes the camera weather resistant to IPX-4 standards. Professionals will notice the inclusion of a hardware Ethernet port for a more reliable network connection, and a USB port for connecting an LTE modem. The USB port can also be used to power your iDevice while using the app .

Hi,
Does this product ship to Australia and if so when is the expected arrival date?
Hi Josh -
This camera is currently in stock and will typically ship to Australia within 3-7 business days. Add it to our on-line cart system to choose a shipping option.
Perhaps B&H can do a Live Broadcast Demonstration when it arrives in-house?
SUGGESTONS...
. Shoot from TableTop & Tripod (perform Live switching between two units to see how smooth the switching truely is)
. Pickup and Relocate (so we can see how the camera adjusts in real time
. Pisition from both 10ft & 25ft distances (to hear how well the audio picks up)
. Lighting Test (to see how well it does in a brightly lite room vs a low-light environment
. Finally... Walk one of the camera's outside 'Live' (to see how well it adjust during constant movement - as some might use it for outdoor events)
Look forward to the Demo!
Hi Dan -
Great suggestions! We will consider re-visiting this camera in the future and we will certainly keep your valuable input in mind. Thanks again.
When the camera is used for recording only what is the end result on the sd card is it in mp4 format ie to post on YouTube at a later date.
The video format is H.264, which is a compressed format that can be used for youtube.
"If you have a subscription to Livestream’s professional streaming service..."
Does that imply the Movi camera only works with Livestream.com service? In other words, I could not use it with YouTube?
Hi Rick -
Yes it does. Currently "Livestream" is the only recommended platform.

It's a real sucker move for them to not develop for Android users. What a disapointment.
so all im seeing is apple this apple that.. what about android users?!? I love this camera but to force someone to having to buy an apple in order to use this is luticris.
Make the item multi platform android and apple
like i like how the camera works.. its amazing everything about it is beautiful but for users like me, who own android ( samsung note 5) for work related reasons (graphic illustrator and uses the spen to draw) you are pretty much stuck down to ONE device and ONE device only reguardless of what the other devices that are out are.
I would love to get the camera but wht I am seeing is this is only for apple iphones and IOS devices.. I would love to see this become compatable with android OS operating system especially it would go well with my samsung note 5 device. If that is the case, then I would buy up 4 of these :). I am a videographer and i record travel documentarys using my samsung note 5 and a canon camera. to be able to shoot live while on a note 5 using this camera would be amazing.
Hi George -
I agree with you George! We will have to wait and see if MOVI offers an Android app.

some of these companies start on one platform and then support the other. dont let all the hype get you crazy. if it is good, then it will make money. if they make money, then i am sure android users will be next.
Everything I've seen shows the Movi fixed to it's stand, or sitting on a counter. My question is. Will the video quality be like any other HD and/or 4K camera with movement? For example: Can you use the Movi on a slider rig, or camera jib? Or perhaps even hand held? Will the camera, in motion, effect the video captured?
Everything I've seen on the camera also suggests it is only for static usage. Being that the camera has not yet been released its a bit hard to say how well it will work or if it will at all on rigs and jibs etc and capturing video while moving. Once the camera makes it into the hands of some creative users we'll have a better sense of how its intended to be used vs how other people actually work it.
How well does this camera do in low lighting situations? And incase I overlooked it, what is the price point set at?
Thanks
Hi,
While live, does the camera still recording the overall video as 4K or not (both recording and live at the same time or just live)?
If it does both (record and live), what will be recorded between an un-cut movie (like normal recording) or a cutted movie as user adjusted while live?
Thanks
The camera itself records in 4k, and if you choose to broadcast the entire view without doing any close ups it will record/broadcast in 4k resolution. Once you select a specific angle/perspective, it is then cropping on the 4k sensor to a lower resolution (depending on the size of what you choose to call your broadcasted subject will determine the recorded resolution). You can record one perspective, and set another to broadcast but it will only record one perspective at a time.
So how does it capture 9 angles? Do you need to buy 9 Movis?
One camera captures 9 angles from the same perspective. Below is a link to a video demonstration of the camera on Movi's website which makes it much easier to understand and visualize how it works. See the link below for details.

How many iOS devices(viewers) can connect to the Movi camera at a time to see the LiveStream?
Hi Quan -
It's pretty much unlimited up to the capacity of the bandwith of the social media (Livestream) site that the Live Event MOVI camera is streaming on or loaded to.

can you pplugg microphones to it? or just ambient audio?
Hi Camilo -
There is no port to connect an external mic. The only audio input is via the embedded microphone.

Mark,
There is a plug for external audio....
Hi Michael -
What about audio?
There are terrific stereo microphones built into every Movi. You can also add and mix an audio source via your iPhone’s microphone jack when using the Movi app.

Can you use this camera at 1080p or 4K for continuous streaming, or is the max resolution at any given moment only 720p? I understand that the sensor is 4K, but the notes seem to say that the sensor is used to make several angles of 720, but not a single angle at higher resolution. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks!
Hi Ben -
You are correct: The camera leverages its 4K sensor for live-switching up to 9 virtual camera angles at 720p resolution, with each angle composed of part of the full 4K image. The app allows you to cut between the virtual cameras and provides real-time virtual camera controls, like panning, tilting, and zooming, which can be done in real time with simple touchscreen gestures.

How long would the battery last and could you connect a portable power source to it and keep recording?
Hi Akoa -
We have not had this camera in our hands yet so we can only offer you our best estimates at this time. The included battery may offer about an hour of continuous recording time. It cannot be powered via an outboard powerpack as far as we know. But it would be smart to keep one handy for a quick recharge. Movi offers a battery accessory that offers up to 10 hours of continuous recording.:
