Freehands 11121MXX overview

  • 1Description

This pair of xx-large black Men's Stretch Thinsulate Gloves from Freehands are designed to be used when photographing outdoors in cold weather. The gloves have a waterproof and windproof backing and are lined with Thinsulate to keep you warm in the winter while being lightweight enough to wear in milder weather.

When photographing in cold weather you can open the finger tips so that you can more easily access small buttons on your camera, which might be difficult to access if you were wearing normal gloves. When you need to access buttons on your camera, simply pull back the thumb and forefinger tips of the gloves to reveal your fingers. The tips are secured in place by magnets until you are ready to cover your fingers again. The palm patch features a silicon grip to prevent your camera from slipping. The gloves are designed to fit snugly so you can hold and operate your camera easily. For a looser fit, order the next size up.

Men's Stretch Thinsulate Gloves (XX-Large, Black) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Give 'em a hand I am very happy with these gloves. First off I wasn't sure which size to buy. Typically I would use a XL but after reading the reviews I decided to go with the XXL. They fit perfect. As for them keeping your hands warm, they do a good job. You have to go into this purchase knowing that they won't be as warm for you index finger and thumb than normal gloves. The first time I tested these it was -15*F. My index fingers and thumbs were definitely cold but my hands and all other fingers were just fine. Realistically I'm not going to be out in this cold of weather using my camera. The grip is fantastic also and I'm confident they will keep a secure hold on the camera. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs a bit smaller than the Fleece I purchased the Men's Thinsulate XXL and the Men's Fleece XL. Thinsulate is smaller than expected, Fleece is a bit larger than expected. My hand measurements: 1. Circumference of hand at knuckles: 8.75(22 cm)2. Palm (from crease of hand at wrist to base of middle finger): 4 5/8 (11.7 cm)3. Middle finger: 3 5/8 (9.2 cm)I wear a size 8.5 surgical glove. The Thinsulate XXL fits very well with no significant movement of hand in glove. The Fleece XL is about one size too large. The Thinsulate gloves are warmer than the Fleece (Fleece feels like a slightly thicker cotton work glove you might get at Home Depot). The Thinsulate gloves are medium warmth gloves - not something I'd wear for an extended time in very cold weather like when snow skiing or having a snowball fight. The soft material in the palm and fingers of the Thinsulate gloves covers more area of the glove than on the Fleece gloves which allows you to hold the camera better (Tips of fingers have the soft material on the Thinsulate gloves, Fleece gloves do not. Width of soft material on fingers is wider on the Thinsulate gloves, and palm coverage is also better on the Thinsulate gloves). The camera therefore feels much more secure (less slippery) with the Thinsulate than with the Fleece. The tips of the index finger and thumb on the gloves fold back nicely and make tactile camera operation much, much better. Magnets hold the folded tips in place very well on both the Thinsulate and Fleece gloves. It's a great design, and I'm very pleased with the purchase. Can't keep both pairs, so will be returning the Fleece gloves.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good idea but has its limits I frequently shoot video for a well-known cable channel that specializes in being out in the elements. If you've ever tried to shoot in driving snow and wind, you know how quickly your hands can go numb. But thick gloves are not an option because you can't operate your aperture and focus rings. The design on these looked promising because you can easily expose your thumb and index finger, then re-protect them after you have finished your settings. First, the good news. Sizing was perfect. I have large hands and the XX Large fit very well. They are also well made. Second, the not so good. Unfortunately, these gloves didn't work as well as I'd hoped. The protection from the elements was minimal. In a recent snowstorm in central New York, the temperature was near freezing (which I consider warm). The gloves did little to keep my hands warm. Yes, they were better than nothing. In summary, they are OK, but they did not do the job I wanted them to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best foul weather glove I have found I bought these for use in foul weather out in a wilderness setting. I maintain several trail cameras throughout the winter. I am also an avid photographer. It seemed like a no brainer to have gloves that could be used for fine tuned adjustments to my cameras without exposing my hands to wind and cold. Absolutely amazed at how sweet these gloves function for my use. The magnets on the tips are great. They keep the flap out of the way but readily available when you want to button up again. If you work out in foul weather these gloves are the best I have found to date.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The other essential Photography Gear I have only had the gloves for a few weeks now but I am pleased with my purchase. Being a native of New York, I might be less sensitive to the cold than some but they have given me that little bit of extra warmth, comfort and protection I desire. The material itself seems sturdy enough, but the size seems more like a XL, than a XXL. (Big Photographer Hands here)...I like the magnetic holders on the back of the Thumb and Index Finger.Though I do not believe these are great for Arctic cold or Blizzard conditions, I believe they will see me through the winters nicely.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good design It's a great idea but falls short. The gloves were never the right size. I tried both the XL and XXL but neither were correct. The XXL fit right on my middle through pinky fingers but was a little too big for my index and thumb. The thumb had a good half of a thumb length left in it. The gloves are not that warm. My hands were actually colder wearing them (or so it seemed). There's little insulation for the index and thumb so they were ice cold while the rest of my fingers were cold. Once taken off the flap were a little hard to put back on correctly. It's something that I got used to but a small nuisance. You're better off getting a small pair from Under Armor since those kept my hands warmer than these gloves.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Gloves- Size Runs Small From previous reviews, I ordered size larger than normal and glove fits good. Size runs small. Used gloves in 38 degree weather and did ok. Not exceptionally warm, but my hands are cold natured. Had good feel for the camera and did not have to peel back the thumb and finger tips of the glove to operate my camera.
