Yes this is a great scope for a beginner. They will not have any issues maneuvering the scope either.

is this a spotting scope that can be used for bird watching?

Can the altaz base be removed from the tripod , and can I used another photo tripod with it; one that has 3/8-16 screw on top?
For the Powerseeker 80AZ the base is not designed to be removed from the Tripod. It voids any warranty.
