Magnus VT-350 overview

  • 1Description

The Magnus VT-350 Video Tripod with Fluid Head is a lightweight and portable tripod system for shooting stable videos with DSLRs, small camcorders, and any other cameras up to 15 lb. It is suitable for use for event and wedding coverage.

A built-in fluid effect video head features fixed fluid drag, which provides smooth pans and tilts with 360° pan rotation and approximately 175° of tilt. Independent pan and tilt locks tighten and increase resistance until locking the axis for fixed position/lock-off shots. The quick-release plate features a 1/4" camera mounting screw, a spring-loaded locating pin, and a retro-looking anti-skid mounting surface.

The unit features a center column that you raise and lower using a crank arm. The center column extends up to one foot, providing a maximum height of 82" with the column extended. A mid-level spreader keeps the legs steady when you adjust the tripod, and it locks to keep the legs secure once you've set the tripod in position. Both the center column and spreader are integrated.

The four section tripod legs are linked by the mid level spreader, which slides up the center column when you collapse or expand the legs. The legs are individually extendable using flip-locks for quick and easy adjustment to each legs three stages. The legs feature rounded foot spikes with replaceable rubber feet, which provide grip on hard or slippery surfaces. You can remove the rubber spike covers and use the rounded foot spikes on soft surfaces, such as earth or the beach. An integrated bubble level allows you to level the tripod. A carry case with a shoulder strap is included and will let you conveniently carry the tripod over your shoulder when you're traveling about.

    Magnus VT-350 reviews

VT-350 Video Tripod with Fluid Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 63.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has quality issue but in an attractive price The VT-350's price and review are very attractive here. However, when I receive the product on my first use, I am somewhat disappointed. The tripod legs are great, strong with center support, the high is great, it's stable even after I extended the center column all the way, no problem consider the weight of the tripod itself is light, but it is stable with a total 10lb total weight loaded. The only thing I don't like about this tripod is its fluid head. After I have my camera mounted on, when I do the tilt motion, it makes squeaking sound some the mic had pick up the noise, bad. The squeaking sound only happen when it's in the tilt motion, not panning. Also, the fluid head is permanently fixed to the center column and it's not replaceable so that makes it bad. Last, the fluid head is made with mostly plastic, including the quick release plate and I am hesitate to have my $6K camera equipment mounting on it. Thanks to B&H, I am able to return it with no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tripod For The Money I am using this primarily with a JVC GY-HM200. Good solid construction and very easy to lock down. Fluid head is flawless on tilts but sloppy when starting to pan. In my opinion, there is too much sloppy play as soon as you start to pan. However, otherwise its awesome. I sold my Manfrotto behemoth fore this. While the Manfrotto's fluid head was smoother, my shoulders are thanking me every time I lift the Magnus. The only thing I HATE is the so called quick disconnect. It is the worst design I have ever seen. Camera releases easy from tripod but putting it back is one of the most frustrating things I ever had to do. HORRIBLE DESIGN comes close to my true feeling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product in its price range While more expensive fluid head tripods will likely offer increased functionality, the Magnus VT-350 holds its own. I've been using the product for low budget film production, and it provides quality, stable pan and tilt shots. The most impressive feature, outside of its functional pan and tilt, is its height. This VT-350 is so tall when fully extended, you'll need to know exactly where the buttons on your camera are, because you won't be able to see them. I haven't seen another tripod in this price range that offers. One issue, and why I only rated it 4 stars, is that my tripod has a small dead-zone before the fluid pan kicks in. This small gap will create noticeable shaking and instability before you hit the sweet spot. While it is something you eventually learn to prepare for, it is annoying all the same. I believe it is a design issue, and essentially have to prime the pan before I start the shot. Overall, a great tripod for the price. If you have no budget, you'll be better off getting something a little more advanced, but if you are on a small budget this tripod will get the job done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent tripod for the price For $, it's not the best tripod in the world, but it gets the job done. It's quick and easy to set up. I love the quick release plate. Even though it's plastic it has a durable feel. The plastic also makes it lighter, which is nice when you are carrying around light and sound kits as well. My only complains is the knobs for the fluid head have a flimsy feel to them, I'm always worried about twisting too far and breaking them. Other then that I'm very happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tripod for the money Have only had it for 3 weeks, but not problems to date. I have a SonyEA50m with a large battery and 2 wireless mic,s for a weight of 7 pounds, and even with the tripod center post all the way up is is solid. There is a litter play in the center post when it is all the way down, but bring it up a inch and it is very smooth on your pans. The reason I am giving it 4 and not 5 stars is for the short time I have had it will update this review in 6 months

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Deal for the Price I don't use a tripod that often, and my 20 year old tripod head went bad. Needed something made nice, providing me the functionality I needed, easy to use, and at a good price. Looked at a few models, and this VT-350 had a fluid head at the height I wanted, and at a price I thought was reasonable. Plus it was light and compact enough, held 15 lbs, and came with a case. Purchased and arrived within a day. Very happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprising good for the price. We needed a couple of lightweight tripods just for lock-down shots with some lightweight camcorders. We were very surprised by not only the overall height (as we hadn't paid much attention to the specs when ordering because we didn't really care) but also by the fairly smooth quality of the head. I don't think I've ever seen a tripod this functional at this price point. We like it so much we're ordering a few more. I'm not saying I would use this for a job with a lot of camera operator movement, but in a pinch you could certainly get by if the payload is light enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid You can buy a more expensive tripod that will handle 15 of gear, but that you'd be hard pressed to find a better one at twice the price of the VT-350. I have full sized DVCPro cameras, but have been shooting more and more with my Nikon DSLRs. I shoot event videos like concerts, plays, dance recitals as well as 30 second commercials and infomercails. I have the D7100 and D7200 with my heaviest lenses being a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8. This tripod feels solid when I extend the legs. There is no shake in the sections when I put it on the floor. It easily handles either lens and is smooth on the pan and tilt. One of the best features is the height and at an 82 inch full extention it towers over most other tripods under $. I like it a lot and would not hesitate to recommend it anyone. I know that I am supposed to give both pros and cons, but I haven't found anything to complain about yet. I've had it for less than a month and will probably get another one as a backup.
