question

Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?
Asked by: Fiercely F.
I did not see an increased temperature or heat while using the bulbs in this kit that affected it. I used up to the recommended watts as indicated and I have been amazed by the overall quality of natural lighting. This fixture will only support the 105 watt bulbs due to their size. A maximum 50 watt CFL bulb is recommended for each socket for a total of 350 watts which equals to 1400 watts tungsten light. The sockets appear to be plastic. I do not see the reason to mix wattage of bulbs, would not recommend.

question

Can the light level be adjusted, or is it always on ?

Each fixture has two power switches so you can shut down half or all of the lights as you wish. You can also remove bulbs if you would like to do some fine tuning that way.

I would not mix CFL bulbs of different wattages, since that would potentially cause a mix of different color temperatures. The total internal heat of all 7 is roughly 190 watts, which causes the softbox to be warm but not dangerous. If you want less light, the seven bulbs are controlled by a pair of on/off switches, so you can switch on 3 or 4 or all 7.

question

Can I swamp the soft box on these lights with others soft boxes using a speed ring or umbrellas?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unlikely unless the other softboxes are Raya products - this doesn't have a Bowens mount. You could likely rig an umbrella

question

Can this be used as continuous lighting for videography purposes?
Asked by: Nil B.
From a customer stand point, I have enjoyed using the Octa Fluorescent 7- socket 2 light softbox kit due to the features of using the full spectrum of lighting or cutting back half depending on my level of light needed for photography sessions. There was no change in lighting temperature during usage and it gives a nice overall lighting even if used for videography.
