The scrim is a simple yet handy tool. The craftsmanship quality is very good and reliable and I can set it up quickly. B&H made it very simple to order, and quick to receive. Soon after shipping, I've used it reliably in demanding professional TV jobs to control light.

I don't understand the amount of stops reduced, is it variable from 1 to 1/4?
This fabric is not variable, it reduces 1.25 stops of light.

Is the 1-1/4 stop fabric thick enough to beam a small source light into it, and not have a hotspot? I'd like to use an Astra 6X at around 4ft away to result in a large even light source
That should be a good distance to get a even light onto the diffuser and not have a hotspot.

Others have asked, but it hasn't been clearly answered. I have the older Scrim Jim kit (tension fit, velcro). Will this fabric fit my frame?
I've heard the new fabric and frames are slightly larger than the old version. This fabric will likely be slightly too big for your old frame. Looks like Westcott wants to sell more new frames :)

I have a 6x6 Scrim Jim how do I tell if it is the old or new version? And will this fit if I have the old version?
Great question, William. The old version of Scrim Jim used 3/4" thick framing and the frames connected to each other using a tension fit. The new version (Scrim Jim Cine) uses a thicker 1" frame and connects using a positive locking system. The new system also has corners that are NOT built into the frame, like they were in the original version.
The sizing of diffusion silks are not the same for the new version, as we standardized the sizing to what is common in the industry for the Scrim Jim Cine lineup.

We have a Scrim Jim frame kit. Does this silk have velcro running along all edges to attach to a frame?
The Scrim Jim Kit underwent changes in 2016 when it was upgraded to standard industry sizes, more mounting options, and more fabric options. This product is for the Scrim Jim Cine (new version) so please check your Scrim Jim version to determine if the sizing is the same. If you have further questions, please call Westcott customer support at 419-243-7311.

What stands and connectors are recommended for ...
What stands and connectors are recommended for this frame?
For a Scrim Jim Cine that is 6' by 6', a lot of people prefer to use two light stands with grip heads (Westcott part #1881) and Scrim Jim Frame Clamps (Westcott Part #1980) on each stand.
If you want to use a single light stand, we recommend a heavy duty C-Stand with the same grip and clamp noted above as well as some sand bags for the base of the C-Stand.

question
Do these newer Cine versions of the cloth work with the older 4x6 frames that only have velcro?
No. Make sure you purchase the 42x72 inch silks for the original scrim jim frames. I made the mistake of ordering the 4x6 cine silk and it was to big.

question
How small does the frame get when traveling? Does the frame break down to 4x 6ft pieces or are there 8x 3ft pieces?
The frames side components are combinations of 3 lengths of interchangeable tubes and connectors. The 6' x 6' frames are made up of 2-46 tubes connected to 2-22 tubes with the connectors adding the remaining length. The longest of the current Cine tubes is the 46 version. You could also build the frames with smaller components by ordering the frame tubes and connectors ala carte.
