Leica puts a new spin on their perennial favorite, the 8x42 Trinovid HD Binoculars with phase corrected prisms that are coated with highly reflective multi-coatings to increase reflectivity, and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics to boost light transmission through the lenses. These optical coatings work together to produce high-contrast images with true color rendition and minimal distortion. This optical performance is coupled with a comfortable 8x magnification, wide exit pupil and generous eye relief to produce an immersive viewing experience.

Complementing the views produced by the Trinovid HD are construction details that make this optic able to stand up to the rigors of a life lived on the trail. First is a lightweight, sturdy, and corrosion-resistant magnesium alloy chassis that makes this binocular light and easy to handle. The body is covered with a textured rubber armor that protects it from bumps and impacts while giving it a slip-resistant grip in cold or wet conditions. Its optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to make it waterproof and submersible as well as fogproof when moving between extreme temperature fluctuations. To make handling the Trinovid easier are tethered objective lens covers that flip down and out of the way for observing, plus an ocular rainguard that attaches to the strap.

Optical Performance

  • 8x magnification
  • 42mm objective lenses
  • Compact roof prism optical path
  • P40 phase corrected prism coatings increases contrast and provides true color rendition
  • HLS (HighLux System): Highly reflective coatings on prisms reduce internal light loss
  • HDC anti-reflection fully multi-coatings increase light transmission throughout optical path
  • 372' field of view at 1000 yards
  • 54° apparent angle of view
  • Short 6' close focus distance

The image is tack sharp. Beyond what I had imagined, actually. The build quality is top notch. I was looking to purchase a pair of quality binoculars that gave me a really good image for a reasonable price. These binoculars met my criteria. Would I buy them again, absolutely. Would I buy from B & H again? Absolutely. I received my binoculars within three days of placing my order. So B & H were very efficient in processing my order.

Leica 8x42 HD ...Not Bad Glass

I'm comparing these to my 8.5x42 Swarovski EL's and there close but no cigar..The Price is what keeps them close though, half price btw. I wished they had the lockable diopter knob which the previous generation did.. I would recommend these for a good pair of binoculars especially for the price..If you had a bunch of play money, put it down on the Swarovski and you know your looking thru the best..FYI, I'm using these for Birding.. Good luck the purchase.

Excellent binoculars. I did the research and have now tried them in the field. They're exactly what I wanted. Bright, sharp image even in dim, shady woodland. Wide field, sharp to edge of image. Good eye relief & not too heavy.

I am very pleased with the purchase of my new Leica 8x42 Trinovid HD Binoculars. They compared very well when I tested them against my Swarovski 8.5x42 Els, my Zeiss 8x42 Conquest HDs and my Meade 8x42 Master Class Pro EDs (my Meades perform like Alpha binoculars). These Leica Trinovids are tack sharp, bright, with good eye relief and sturdy twist-up eyecups. A good, all around solid feel. I chose these Trinovids over the Ultravids because of their better eye relief and the many reviews I read about the two and how they're really not that much different. The price point, obviously, came into play, too! I also got for my Trinovids a set of Swarovski winged eyecups with matching rainguard and a cordura nylon carrying case. Again, I'm very pleased with this purchase! Thanks again, B&H! I'll always do business with you!

The Trinovid HD collection does not have the AquaDura coatings like the Ultravids and Noctivids have. The only Trinovids that do have the AquaDura coatings are the Trinovid Classic collection.
