Gitzo Systematic GT5533S Overview

The GT5533S Systematic Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo is a high capacity carbon fiber tripod that represents the ultimate goals of the Systematic lineup—minimal weight, durability, and uncompromising stability. For those looking for the most stable support system possible, the Series 5 is designed to hold up to some of the most demanding setups with a large top casting and excellent stability.

Within the Series 5 line the GT5533S is given the "Standard" designation as it can extend from a minimum height of 3.9", to a maximum height of 52.8", all while maintaining an impressive weight capacity of 88 lb. Incorporating Gitzo's patented carbon eXact tubing, the GT5533S sports maximum rigidity while keeping its weight to an absolute minimum. Weighing just 6.2 lb allows the tripod it be easily carried or transported in the studio or out in the field. It's folded length of just 24.4" makes storing or travelling with the tripod easy and convenient.

The Systematic line also features an array of unique, patented, and useful features which set a standard for professional quality. The key design element of the series is the use of Gitzo's Carbon eXact tubes which are extremely rigid despite their lightweight design. The carbon tubing is complimented by Gitzo's G-Lock Ultra twist-locks which maintain stable, solid connections between leg sections and prevent joint damage by blocking out dirt, dust, and moisture. Each leg on the tripod features a 50mm rubber articulating foot, providing a stable and versatile base for setting the tripod on most surfaces. If required, the feet may be removed and replaced with optional metal spikes for increased stability in sand, dirt, mud, snow, and ice. The base of the tripod also features a 3/8"-16 Easy Link attachment thread, allowing the user to connect a variety of accessories to the tripod including magic arms, shoe adapters, LED lights, monitors, and more.

Gitzo Systematic GT5533S Reviews

Rock solid tripod

If you want the most stable support, this is it. Yes it's big, yes it's expensive, yes it's overkill. But you will be rewarded with shake-free images and the ability to support any lens focal length and any system weight. See TheCenterColumn website and you will understand why this tripod is listed at the top. I own 3 RRS tripods as well, but this Gitzo is even more stable and stiff.

Immensely strong and lightweight tripod for small refractor telescopes. I use the Gitzo 5533 to provide rock solid support for my Televue TV85 refractor telescope with Televue Telepod mount. An excellent "Grab and Go" combination.

Great tripod

My old aluminum tripod was net very steady with my 500mm F4.5 lens and camera. Te Gitzo is the same size extended. It's a lot more stable and the diameter of the legs are much bigger. I haven't had a lot of time to do a full test but so far and happy with it.

What exactly is the use case for this tripod? It has a max height of only 51.2", with a folded length of 24". Gitzo makes two other Systematic Series-3 tripods with virtually the same weight, but much more useful max heights of 57.5" and 60". So who is the targeted user for the GT5533S?
Asked by: Roy
Look, all Gitzo Systematic tripods are designed to be used with heavy gear. I shoot with Phase One XT and XF medium format, and I also shoot wildlife with my Sony A1 and 600mm f/4 lens. I own both a Gitzo GT5543LS, the flagship Systematic Series-5 tripod, and also a GT5533LS. I own the Gitzo Rapid Center Columns for both tripods (100mm and 75mm diameter). So it does not help me one little bit if the response to my question is how good the Gitzo tripods are, or how I can take a short tripod and add a center column to make it tall. My question, which somehow is failing to make itself heard, is who is the target market for these short Systematic tripods from Gitzo. There's a GT5533S, with a max height of 52.8", and a GT3533S, with a max height of even less, only 51.2". Who are these short tripods aimed at? (Yes, I know adding a head raises the height - I own a ProMediaGear gimbal, a Sachtler Ace XL fluid head, an Arca D4 and an Arca Cube with GP. I do understand the concept that the head adds to the height!) I just wanted to know what use cases were these short Systematic tripods were intended for. I cannot ask any more clearly, so if the question doesn't register, I give up!
