Gitzo Systematic GT3543XLS Overview

The GT3543XLS Systematic Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo is a high capacity carbon fiber tripod that represents the ultimate goals of the Systematic lineup—minimal weight, durability, and uncompromising stability. The Series 3 tripods are optimal for traveling light but with extremely sturdy support, especially for those who prefer to work without a center column or need enhanced modularity.

Within the Series 3 line the GT3543XLS is given the "Extra Long" designation as it can extend from a minimum height of 3.9", to a maximum height of 79.5", all while maintaining an impressive weight capacity of 61.7 lb. Incorporating Gitzo's patented carbon eXact tubing, the GT3543XLS sports maximum rigidity while keeping its weight to an absolute minimum. Weighing just 5 lb allows the tripod it be easily carried or transported in the studio or out in the field. It's folded length of just 28" makes storing or travelling with the tripod easy and convenient.

The Systematic line also features an array of unique, patented, and useful features which set a standard for professional quality. The key design element of the series is the use of Gitzo's Carbon eXact tubes which are extremely rigid despite their lightweight design. The carbon tubing is complimented by Gitzo's G-Lock Ultra twist-locks which maintain stable, solid connections between leg sections and prevent joint damage by blocking out dirt, dust, and moisture. Each leg on the tripod features a 50mm rubber articulating foot, providing a stable and versatile base for setting the tripod on most surfaces. If required, the feet may be removed and replaced with optional metal spikes for increased stability in sand, dirt, mud, snow, and ice. The base of the tripod also features a 3/8"-16 Easy Link attachment thread, allowing the user to connect a variety of accessories to the tripod including magic arms, shoe adapters, LED lights, monitors, and more.

Gitzo Systematic GT3543XLS Reviews

Well made and sturdy

Full disclosure I haven't used it enough since purchasing to give a full review. My last tripod that's roughly 8 years old (manfrotto) wasn't as sturdy anymore. I've had to replace parts over the years and after a session where I spent three days, easily 8ish hours each day using my old tripod, I realized while it didn't seem in the moment there was much play, when editing photos from that weekend, I realized there was just too much minute movement, for my liking. Immediately opening my Gitzo tripod the feel and sturdiness is way better than my old tripod is (granted this one is over double the price of my old one). The very limited use I have had with it so far has been a great experience, I wish that either I would have purchased a tripod on this level from the beginning, or at the very least upgraded it sooner.

Excellent

I recently bought these legs, and the lever on my old geared column hits the legs when I crank the column. Do the new geared columns fix that? One review here said it’s an issue.
Asked by: Christopher
The Gitzo GT3543XLS Systematic Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Extra Long) (B&H# GIGT3543XSUS) and every other tripod requires the usage of a specific and compatible column (if one will be used at all since they're not required). Unfortunately, there is no one universal fit nor even a common standard. In the case of this particular Systematic Series 3 tripod, the required product would be the Gitzo GS3513S Rapid Center Column for Series 2, 3, and 4 Systematic Tripods (B&H# GIGS3513S); Speaking generally, tripod columns and legs are not universally cross-compatible, even within the same brand.

I would add ball head RRS BH-55 but i just looked at the folded length of the tripod and is 28". So i was wondering if GT3543LS / GT3533LS would handle that lens and that ballhead? GT3543LS is 22.4". Thank you
