Peak Design L-AS-3 Overview

This gray Leash Camera Strap from Peak Design is designed to provide you with the ability to quickly and easily detach a connected camera from it, so you can move only the camera to a tripod, or connect another camera to the strap. This is made possible using the included Anchor Links. Each Anchor Link is rated to hold 200 pounds and creates a durable, snap-in or snap-out connection point to a strap eyelet on a wide variety of cameras. The strap length is adjustable from 32.6 to 57.1" and is 0.8" wide. Integrated adjustment loops allow the length of the Leash to be quickly changed while in use.

Constructed with twist-resistant nylon and leather webbing, you can use it as a neck or shoulder strap, or wear it as a cross-body strap whether you are right- or left-handed, draped from one shoulder to the opposing hip. When used along with an Anchor Link, the included Anchor Mount can create a connection point using a camera's 1/4"-20 bottom accessory thread. By attaching the Leash along a bottom accessory thread and one strap eyelet instead of two, a camera can be made to consistently face forward while against the hip, reducing the time needed by the user to raise it to their eye and capture an image.

  • Use as a neck, shoulder, or cross-body strap whether you are right- or left-handed

Perfect size

This strap is the perfect size for a mirrorless camera. I use it with my Fujifilm X-T4. It does not feel bulky at all like a wide strap does. Build quality is excellent. Easy to adjust on the go. Long enough for any way you carry your camera. I have always been a fan of the quick disconnects from Peak Design.

Great product... with a caveat.

The original strap on my Leica M-240 came apart. Luckily, I didn't have it over my shoulder at the time. I thought I'd upgrade to something better. I also own a Nikon D800. I love the idea that the strap can be quickly unclipped and moved from camera to camera and the design of the anchors should reduce the amount of damage caused by the metal fittings of other types of strap rubbing against the camera. The kit came with two sets of anchors, so I would be good to go. Unfortunately, the anchors would not fit through the strap lug holes on the M-240 and guess what? They wouldn't fit through the strap lug holes of the D800 either. I consider this to be a bit short-sighted of Peak Design because the previously available additional components to allow the anchors to be attached to the strap lugs have been discontinued - why? The attachments had bumpers to prevent them from scratching the camera. I read online about somebody contacting Peak Design in the U.S. for these and they were advised that they were no longer available. Eventually, some were found in the back of a warehouse and a few were being made available. They may be all gone by now. That didn't help me because I had no split rings or anything and had to resort to eBay to purchase split rings. Why not just include a couple of those in the kit? Otherwise, I'm very happy with the Leash. It's well-designed and very cool. I like the way I can easily swap between cameras, or quickly just get the strap out of the way. It was just annoying that the product described as 'everything you need' didn't have everything I needed.

Perfect strap for a Nikon Z6ii

Got this strap to replace the one that came with my Nikon Z6ii. It is longer, better looking and much more comfortable than the Nikon strap. The only negative thing that I can think of about this strap is that I wish the clips were not so close to the camera body because they can get in the way at times, but this is a minor complaint.

Purchased to replace the strap that came with my cameras. The materials feel premium and are backed by a lifetime warranty. The adjustments are intuitive to use. The strap slides smoothly across my body. It comes with four anchor links which allows me to use the one strap on two camera bodies. Love it!

I have combined a Clutch CL-3 and Leash L-AS-3 for my daily setup. The Leash works very well for me. I like to carry down by my side or at my back. The Leash adjustable straps easily adjust to my needs. The Anchor's and the way everything attaches to the camera is perfect. I have numerous Anchor locations so that I can change my carry positions while hiking. It's all super handy. Quality is top notch and customer service even contacted me after the purchase. All great so far, very happy with the quality, price and purchase.

This is useful for those who use number of cameras and use different types of shootings. When I choose one of the cameras I got, i just place this strap on, and leave others at home.

Purchased the Leash right before a trip and so glad it arrived early. The adjustability of the Leash is so quick and easy to use. It held in place with no slipping.

Is the base plate compatible with the Peak Designs Capture Clip?
Asked by: Scott
No, the Peak Design Anchor Mount included with the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap is not compatible for use with the mount on the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip v3. Peak Design states that the anchor mount is only designed to be used if you are not using Capture or a tripod; the anchor mount is not Arca-compatible.

The Leash should be able to handle Sony FX 30 but if you're adding a big lens or if you're shooting for long hours, you might consider getting a Slide for comfort.

Will I be able to thread the connectors through the niplets on a Sony RX100, or will I need to bridge this system with something like 6mm split rings?
Asked by: David
I do not have an RX100 but it works for my A6000 and A6400. Both of those have small triangular split rings that are connected to small holes on each side of the camera bodies. I don't think the connectors will fit through the holes on the camera without the split rings.
