JBL 306P MKII Reviews

306P MkII Kit - Two Powered 6.5- Two-Way Studio Monitors (Pair) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent speakers for streaming Firstly, kudos to B&H :) bought these while on sale and out of stock, 2 days later I got a shopping notice :) they arrived in perfect condition 3 days later. Wow awesome job guys. Ive wanted some powered monitors for a couple years now. I was well read on the abilities of the 305/308p, but never pulled the trigger. When these went on sale, that was that. I have them in a 440sqft sunroom and they sound awesome. Bass is tight and those highs are everything I expected from JBL pro Connected a chromecast music to them and I have an incredible sounding, easy to operate, perfect system. Thanks JBL and B&H :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing speaker I already own a pair of 1st gen 305s and decided to buy a pair of 306s to upgrade. The 306s do sound louder at the same volume level, they do have a little more bass as well. If you do want more bass, you need to get the sub 310S to complete the set. I paired the speakers with focusrite scarlett 2i2 and TS balanced cables. No distortion, sound is nice and clean.  As always, B&H exceeds in customer service, and shipping is fast as well. Thank you B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gerat Studio Monitors! I've been looking for some time the right solution for my small studio. It's a 12ft x 13ft space. Most of the time I was listening to HiFi music through my high-end headphones, but at times I just wanted to take them off and continue to listen to music. I had other speakers that sounded flat. I hooked this directly to an iFI DAC and magic! The sound is very neutral, the highs are very clear, the bass powerful enough. Now I find myself listen more without my headphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Near Field Monitor These JBL-306P MkII monitors are really, really great for the price. I recommend them highly. Yes, no doubt there are better monitor speakers out there for hundreds if not thousands more and if you’ve got the bread for them, go for them, BUT, if you’re on a budget and still demand high sound quality to make your editing decisions, these are hard to beat. Great Sounding and really affordable, now that’s a hard combination to beat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommend to anyone looking for quality studio monitors. This is my first set of proper studio monitors. Previously, I had been using Sony bookshelf speakers with a subwoofer and a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro headphones. I really like these JBL 306 monitors. In my 10x10 room these speakers produce plenty of bass, even for electronic music a subwoofer would be overkill. I bought mine on sale for $240, yet I think they are worth at least the $400 original price tag. For small to medium studios I think these 306’s are perfect, I think the 308’s would be a waste of money and a waste of space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Just... wow! These speakers are the cats meow. Great sound. Their performance matches the professional reviews in every way. We also added the subwoofer (which is quite large, by the way), to add the oomph. Together, it makes a great 2.1 system that I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Price Speaker!!! Delivery was fast and the product was well received without breakage. The sound is too good balance. It is highly recommended speaker.

Can you buy a single spearker as a center channel?
Asked by: Michael
I believe you can. The units themselves are identical, and JBL even advertises they can be used for 5.1 mastering. The back just has a mono inputs in either XLR or TRS and doesn't really care where the audio is coming from as long as it's the right levels. That said, I wouldn't expect to just be able to plug it in to, say, a consumer AV receiver - not without thorough research first anyway.

Regarding the crossover frequency for the 306p, 1425Hz seems low when compared to the other models in the new 3 series: 1725Hz for the 305p and 1800Hz for the 308p. Is the number for the 306p accurate? Would the HF driver be able to handle 1425Hz?

Asked by: Dave on Bass
It is low. Probably due to the wave guide which helps the tweeter with output levels and LF exetension. Amphion monitors which have a much shallower wave guide set their x-overs at 1.6K.

According to the manual (https://www.jbl.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-masterCatalog_Harman/default/dw8978425d/pdfs/JBL_3_Series_MkII_Owners_Manual_English.pdf) the speaker can activate auto standby mode. See page 12. But it doesn't work.
