KIPON OM-NIK Z Reviews
Really wanted this to work
I began my early photography days with the Olympus 35 mm OM system and the 50 mm 1.4 lens adding a Vivitar 28 mm f2.5 and a zoom lens. All these had been packed away for years, until I bought my Z7. I really wanted to use these lenses, especially the f1.4 50. This adapter seemed a really viable option. Once it arrived I tried some general photograph and found it not as difficult to nail the focus as I expected using the Z7 focus peaking, but I was noticing some serious image loss (both vignetting and focus) at the periphery. The zoom was not usable without stopping way and the defect was asymmetric. Clearly the light was not hitting the sensor as it should. So I tested the lenses against a uniform background and found that for the 50 mm 1.4 it looked most uniform starting at f2 thru f16 but at f1.4 I could not get the center in focus. Same with the 28 mm f2.5. The center was consistently not in focus wide open and both required stopping down to get the uniformity I wanted. So... dear OM users, I'm not certain that we can really use our legacy lenses on the Z series with this adapter at least, unless you're willing to stop down, which makes them really very usable. I'm returning the adapter. At more than $70 I don't see that it's worth the price point for what you get. On the plus side, this makes a really nice small package with the Z7 + Olympus OM lenses - it feels great in your hand - really balanced. I'm sad to return it.
