Matthews Boa Overview

Grab a Matthews Boa Bag to help safely rig lights and modifiers as well as add weight to tripods and more. This 2.5 lb bag is split into two bags to easily hang or wrap around objects.
While traditional sandbags are an invaluable and irreplaceable component of professional grip kits, the Boa Bag adds a lighter-weight option for different applications on set. One common use of the Boa Bag is as a counterweight when mounting light fixtures and modifiers at an extended length using a boom arm. Boa Bags are quick and comfortable to carry from setup to setup thanks to the wide center strap with a sewn-in rubberized patch; this non-slip section also helps the bag rest securely on grip arms and other surfaces. Because the strap is long enough for the bag to fully wrap around stand legs and other shafts in a bola-like fashion, it cannot be easily knocked off its proper position.

My Tripod's Perfect Counter Weight

I recently purchased a new Manfrotto tripod which has a center column for laterally positioning the camera. Naturally, with the weight of a camera and lens on one end of the laterally positioned column, one needs a counter weight to balance the tripod. I looked at what was available and there's more than I thought available. Matthews Boa Bag is perfect for my needs. The build quality of product is excellent and the design is perfect. The non slip hanging surface is great and so is the balance of the double bag design.

Expensive, but super handy

I bought 2. It's not the sexiest purchase, but I can tell they'll last forever. Super handy, and I appreciate it having a little more versatility than a traditional sandbag. Matthews is expensive, but the real deal.

The Matthews Boa Bag (10 lb) is a weight that will add 10 lbs to whatever tripod or stand you hang it from; if the tripod has a hook, you can use it.

Has anyone had experience flying with these? TSA keeps unzipping and piercing my regular sandbags... This might be a great solution if the TSA doesn't mess with them. Are there zippers or are they fully sealed? Thanks.

No experience with flying, but the bags are fully sealed. Good luck!

question

what are the dimensions of the bag? Do they ship filled with shot?
Asked by: Anonymous
It does indeed ship with shot -- and each bag is about 5 inches wide at the bottom seams and 1.5 inches at the top at the grippy part.
