Sand bags come in a variety of shapes and weights. They are used for securing the bases of light stands and set walls. Many have handles, for hanging on hooks or risers. Some have two wings, to allow draping over light stand legs.
Most are cordura nylon, some are vinyl covered and waterproof.
Some models of sandbags are shipped empty, for convenience and economy. They can be filled with sand, or any type of weight you provide, and emptied for storage, or transport.

Black cordura nylon with handle.

Senior Boa Weight Bag - Black - 15 lbs is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love These Things! I'm back to using lighter weight stands for location shoots instead of C-stands. I just didn't need 25 to 40 pound sandbags anymore. The Matthews BOA bags are perfect for lighter weight stands. They're also perfect for middle-aged backs and although they aren't cheap, they are a lot cheaper than a physical therapy bill for lugging around a ton of heavier sandbags. I use them on all my stands for video shoots. Because they're smaller, they're easier to pack and store. First rate build quality and like their name implies, they do indeed grip like my old pet boa constrictor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same useful 15 lbs, Smaller package 15 lbs is a sweet spot for holding most stands and fixtures in place, AND classic sandbags have to be a certain size to provide the weight you want, SO if you are trying to maximize space on a cart or truck this will do the trick. The smaller size allows you to carry 2 bags in each hand much closer to your body. The design earns its name. It will offer more ways to secure the bag to a stand or piece of equipment. A CON could be, the way you'll want to attach the bag to a stand may take away your ability to kick the bags off and move a stand quickly. You also may choose to pick the stand AND bag up for re-positioning TOO MANY times in a day, and more than you would normally. You wouldn't have the visual deterrent of a standard size sandbag. You'll learn, I guess. haha I have been enjoying the 10 lbs Boa bags as a break from my classic 15 lbs SAND-bags in many situations for a while now, BUT I wanted a weight I'm familiar with AND the small size and functionality of the Boa design at 15 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smaller and far more versatile than conventional weight bags I was going to buy a conventional weight bag to use on my new C-stand when I ran across a reference to these in a lighting forum. They are smaller than conventional bags, easy to carry (grab it by the piece of fabric connecting the 2 bags), and don't care if you get them wet (try that with a regular sand bag). Materials appear to be quite tough & durable. The HUGE advantage, however, is that you can use these on a conventional stand with folding (and sloping) legs, because you can simply wrap the bag around the center column and drape it over the legs. No worries about it slipping off, unlike conventional bags. The only complaint I have is the lack of color choices it would be great to have these in a high visibility yellow or orange for added safety.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More expensive but a better design then traditional sand bag I prefer these over traditional sand bags especially when using them for light stands or counter weights for booms. The cost difference is very high, so I have a mixed bag of these and regular sand bags and only use these for the above mentioned applications. They are more compact then traditional bags and hang on tight spaces much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! MSE makes great products that last and last. You get what you pay for. 15 lbs is a perfect weight in the studio. The Boa design holds well and is easy to move and carry. Really like the shot filled vs sand, I do not want to risk sand leaking on other equipment. Very happy with this product, we will be purchasing more when needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Effective! I needed these to hold down a pop-up event display, and they are perfect to keep it from tipping over, and small enough to not be in the way or noticed much. Very useful for many applications. A little pricey, but well worth it, and much better alternative to messy sand bags.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like the design This is a great weight for stands - not C-stands - but other light stands that are hard to get the large sandbags onto. These are heavy and wrap around the stand easily. I think they are a bit overpriced but I would definitely recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Design & Easy to Use I used this product today. I had a very flimsy light stand supporting dual flashes and an umbrella outside with a slight breeze. I used 2 15 Lb weights. The stand swayed back and forth but did not go over. Just what I needed.
