The LB-60N Leveling Base with Butterfly Handle and 60mm Plate from Leofoto acts like a 75mm half ball, providing +/-15° of leveling range capability. It locks easily and securely in position with the twist of the large butterfly handle at the base of the ball. This leveling base installs on any tripod leg set has a standard 3/8" threaded mounting stud.
The anti-twist safety screw design uses three set screws on the spider to secure the ball head in place on top of the leveling base.

I purchased the Leofoto LB-60N Leveling Base at the same time I purchased my Sirui L-324F Carbon Fiber Tripod and PH-10 Gimbal head. In my first field test I found that I could keep the ball head in the unlocked position which along with the gimbal provided enough drag to keep my panning and tilting movements smooth and secure when following birds in flight and ducks swimming in ponds. The leveling base did not add significant weight to the rig. However I did not need to engage the actual "level" as I already have an orientation screen option in my viewfinder.
This has made leveling a whole lot easier for small adjustments. When I loosen this and the two directional adjustments on the Leofoto two way monopod head, it basically allows movements like a ball head, but with the ability to lock whichever direction I choose as I make final composition adjustments. This works as well as I anticipated. I could not justify the cost difference for the Acratech (nor did I have the extra funds), although I would love to support a US based company. The screw on top of this leveler allows you to easily change heads. It has been used in the rain. I dried it as well as I could afterwards. Hopefully it does not develop any issues over time. I am very pleased with this leveling base. It is quick and easy to level, but probably has a little less precision than a geared three-way head.
