Ideal for photographing in high contrast situations, the 84 x 120mm Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 Hard-Edge Filter from Singh-Ray helps to balance exposures and produce imagery with greater highlight and shadow detail. The filter's design places the 0.6, 2-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The hard-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with a straight, distinct horizon line as well as when working with a telephoto or long lens. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

The filter's design places the 0.6, 2-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The hard-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with a straight, distinct horizon line as well as when working with a telephoto or long lens. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

Traditional graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.
Hard-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with a distinct or straight horizon or line between light and shadow, and is also best-suited for use with a long or telephoto lens.
Neutral density 0.6 provides a 2-stop reduction in light in selective areas.
Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.
Compatible for use with the Cokin P filter holder.
Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Singh-Ray filters always get high reviews, and now I know why. I hesitated before I bought this because of the high price tag. I pulled the trigger and I am glad I did. They are incredible! Take care with these resin filters as they scratch rather easily. As long as you do that, you won't be disappointed with the neutral density and optical clarity of these filters.

Does its job. Good quality. This is a hard-edged filter, so use with a straight, sudden division between light and dark areas--like a flat horizon line.

Singh-Ray filters are excellent. I purchased this to help fill out the set of graduated ND's I already had. Great optics, no fade or discoloration in the picture. Excellent results.

Singh-ray filters are excellent. This filter does what it says. The only complaint I have is that the graduation line did not match another Singh-ray hard step filter I have, so using them together (stacked in a Cokin holder), it was more difficult to get the gradauation lines to line up - I had to do it through the view finder like I would using one filter - no big deal, it just took a little more time and I was hoping not to have to do this as much. Also with digital cameras, especially shooting raw to the right, the two stop may be obsolete in most situations as you can quickly apply two stop graduations using Adobe ACR - if you use PS. For the in camera purist though, this item would be necessary.

This is a great tool but in practice I found that 2-stops was rarely, if ever, enough density for its intended use. I used one for a year but I always had to do some extra work like double processing a RAW file in the digital darkroom, or blend bracketed exposures ---this defeats the purpose. Therefore, I recommend the 3-stop reverse-grad over the 2-stop which should be much more useful for shooting fireballs. However, using any type of filter (flat surface) when your camera/lens is pointed at the sun may (not always) result in lens flare making filters like this a double-edged sword

When you put this filter in front of your lens, it looks like if it isn't there. No blurring, no distortion, just the thing that you really want: viewing the sky 2 stops lower. Is perfect

Useful product- But an entire system

Works great. A necessity for landscape shots. But understand that you are investing in a whole filter system with these products. THat can get quite expensive by the time you have all of the accessories you need.
