Ideal for photographing in high contrast situations, the 84 x 120mm Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Hard-Edge Filter from Singh-Ray helps to balance exposures and produce imagery with greater highlight and shadow detail. The filter's design places the 0.9, 3-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The hard-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with a straight, distinct horizon line as well as when working with a telephoto or long lens. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

Traditional graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.
Hard-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with a distinct or straight horizon or line between light and shadow, and is also best-suited for use with a long or telephoto lens.
Neutral density 0.9 provides a 3-stop reduction in light in selective areas.
Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.
Compatible for use with the Cokin P filter holder.
Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for landscape photography It is almost a must have for me when phtographing landscape. It is an excellent ND gad filter and I get consistently good result. I also have the Singh-Ray 2-stop hard and 3 stop soft filters. Since I have no side by side comparison with another brand, I can't say if other brand is comparable and just as good. After years, I don't understand why Singh-Ray has not improved the filter storage, it is still a soft pocket. If any dirt get inside the pocket, it can scratch the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Actually Neutral! I previously purchased a lower cost set of hard and soft ND grad filters. Although I'd done my Internet research and was confident they would not add any color tint, they in fact did. So, before leaving for a two week road trip down the west coast, where I knew I'd be taking lots of images at sunset, I purchased this Singh-Ray ND grad filter. What a joy! Absolutely no detectable coloration in the photos I took using it on the beach and in Yosemite National Park. Yep, they cost a bit more, but the lower cost ones are simply a waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I use this filter for landscape photography in front of my Canon 17-40 f4 and 24-105 f4 lenses. Great for sunrise and sunset photos with a 3 stop difference between the bright sky and dark foreground. The rectangular shape of this filter enables you to position it according to your needs. I was always frustrated with circular graduated neutral density filters, as they don't have that flexibility of placement. I am also impressed with the image quality as the filter doesn't degrade the image as compared to my previous ones. Great buy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well worth it. This is the first ND filter I purchased for my DSLR. I used it specifically to help with sunset/sunrise pictures, where I had a high contrast difference within different portions of my image. This product has worked great for these purposes. There is no perceptible distortion of the image, and I am getting great shots. The flexibility of the holder to fine tune the placement of the ND section is key.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter for the money! I have used many different types of neutral graduated filters in the past. And this one is top notch as far a I'm concerned. It darkens the sky without generating any color changes, which many other inexpensive filters do. I guess it is true 'you get what you pay for'. I would highly recommend this filter to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter @ extreme light differences I've been using these filters for nearly 10 years and they've been probably the best addition to my landscape kit. The 3stop hard edge in particular has been a saver in a number of times, such as sunsets at the coast, flowers in shadow (foreground) with snow-capped sunlit mountain peaks in the background.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding quality! The optical quality of this filter is without a doubt the best there is. Fits the Cokin P-series holder perfectly, comes in a really nice leatherette pouch. So much better than my screw-in ND filters, no vignetting at all. Can't wait to pick up a few more!
