Godox TR-N1 Reviews

Good, but not perfect

I wanted a simple remote camera trigger for long exposures, remote burst photography (0–X seconds), and an on/off trigger for remote video. It works well for long exposures and generally works as an on/off trigger for remote video. However, unless your camera has some sort of tally or recording indicator light, you’re essentially assuming that the video is starting and stopping properly. I encountered this issue while recording a high school basketball game using two cameras. I had my Z7 set up at one end of the court to capture video using the remote trigger, while I sat in the top row of the bleachers at center court recording the game locally with my Z8. I used the remote to trigger the Z7, starting the video at the beginning of each period and stopping it at the end. When I later reviewed the footage from the Z7, I found that some video was missing, suggesting the trigger didn’t always work as intended. On another occasion, I had the Z8 set up at the end of the court to capture photos remotely. Periodically, I would press and hold the shutter button on the remote for a second or two to capture a burst of images. Without realizing it, one time the camera entered bulb mode and stayed active for a couple of minutes, capturing images at roughly eight frames per second. If the remote shutter button is held for three seconds, it switches into bulb mode and remains active until the button is pressed again. I feel like more thought could have gone into how this remote would be used in real-world situations. At some point, I’ll need to do additional testing to determine whether these issues are related to distance, operator error, or the remote itself. Without a clear recording indicator on the camera, you’re left assuming the system is working as expected. I haven’t used any of the delay or interval features of the remote, so I can’t comment on those.
