The Cheater Plate from Impact features a 3" baby pin that's "cheated" at 30° from perpendicular to create enough clearance for mounting and positioning barndoors when a light fixture is facing down. The base plate has eight mounting holes for using either screws or nails to ensure a solid and secure attachment to masonry, drywall, and apple boxes. The knurled baby pin provides a secure mount that won't twist or slip once the light fixture is attached.

Impact Cheater Plate Reviews
Simple, strong, and can be very useful on set
This is one of those simple grip tools that ends up being incredibly useful once you have it in your kit. The build quality is the first thing that stood out to me. It is made from solid steel and feels extremely strong and well built. Once it is mounted, it feels very secure and stable, which is exactly what you want when you are hanging a light. The angled baby pin design is really the key feature here. The 30-degree offset gives you extra clearance for barndoors when a light is mounted facing downward or close to a wall. That may sound like a small thing, but it actually makes a big difference when you are trying to shape light properly and need room for the barndoors to open and adjust. The mounting plate is also very well designed. With eight mounting holes you have plenty of options to secure it to different surfaces like walls, ceilings, or apple boxes. Once it is attached it feels very solid and does not move around. I also like the knurled baby pin. It gives the set screw a little more grip, so lights stay locked in place without twisting or slipping. Overall, it is a very simple piece of gear, but it is clearly designed with real production use in mind and built to last. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review.]
