I don't use this for streaming.
I use it primarily as more of an audio switcher/volume controller, display, and a physical shortcut to apps.
I wanted to use it also for muting my microphone, but due to plugin issues, I gave up on that.
The Stream Deck does require the Stream Deck app to be active in order to see your configurations reflect. There's no onboard memory or anything. The auto startup for the Stream Deck app is somewhat finicky as well. Sometimes it doesn't startup and you'll have to manually start it up.
I considered using the discord plugin, but it asks for an uncomfortable amount of permissions, that I decided to go with the volume controller, which had its own set of issues.
The volume controller plugin works sometimes, other times it just displays a warning sign with no real errors to debug with. I gave up on using it for muting or handling volumes at all, and resorted to using the wave link plugin, which is more stable so far.
The downside is that I had to install the Wave Link app to go with the Stream Deck.
I'm currently only using this on Windows 11.
Build quality wise, no complaints there. The knobs have a nice feel to them and have a distinct bump for each notch you rotate over.

The Keys (buttons) have a noticeable wobble and squish when pressed. Which leads to uncertainty as to whether or not the assigned Key action has happened. More weight in the base would help keep the StreamDeck+ in place and well planted on your work surface as you go about pressing Keys. An upgrade to a mechanical keyboard would provide for a much better user experience.

Yes, the Elgato Stream Deck + does allow you to set the device orientation and the buttons will adjust to the orientation setting you choose to work with.

The Elgato Stream Deck + has an extensive Macro system, that would allow you to assign functions to any of the buttons and control PTZ camera functions. Elgato says the dials can be used for adjust volume levels, image details, camera zoom, brightness, white balance, and much more.
