Solid State Logic SSL 12 USB Audio Interface
Big Studio Features, Small Desktop Footprint
Building upon the success of the Solid State Logic SSL 2 and SSL 2+, the SSL 12 USB Audio Interface is a highly portable 12-in / 8-out, bus-powered interface that delivers all of the professional, studio-grade quality and legendary analog character one would expect from SSL in a compact form factor, ideal for content creators and producers on a tight budget. With pristine 32-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA conversion, you will capture every detail and nuance of your recorded sounds, while ADAT input and intuitive console-style software mixing allows the SSL 12 to be both a studio centerpiece and a portable production hub all at once.
Intuitive and Efficient
Each input channel is arranged vertically like a large-format mixing board, providing 5-segment LED metering, selectable 48V phantom power, mic and line-level operation, and a Legacy 4K switch that adds real analog color enhancement to any input source, inspired by the classic sound of 4000 Series consoles heard on countless hit records. Stunningly low noise, unrivaled EIN performance, and a huge gain range ensure optimal sound quality in any recording scenario. And with a wide range of I/O and routing options, as well as a plethora of included software, the SSL 12 can tackle just about any recording scenario you throw at it, from mobile recording setups, live performances, and podcasting applications, to serious studio work and sophisticated content creation.
Comprehensive I/O in a Small Desktop Footprint
Despite it's compact size, the SSL 12 is loaded with a huge amount of professional studio features normally reserved for high-end rackmount interfaces. For tracking, the ADAT connectivity together with onboard talkback mic and an incredibly powerful cue mixer (that allows you to create up to 4 independent near-zero-latency performer mixes) handle the most demanding recording sessions. For mixing, alternative monitor switching and assignable front-panel control-room functions put everything you need at your fingertips. For production, USB Loopback, MIDI I/O, and DC-coupled outputs for CV control of synths and FX equip you with a serious toolkit to keep the creativity flowing.

  • Four SSL-designed microphone preamps with unrivalled EIN performance and huge gain range for a USB-powered device
  • Four Neutrik combo XLR-1/4" mic/line inputs with +48V phantom power, selectable per input
  • Two Hi-Z instrument inputs for guitars, bass, or vintage instruments
  • Two professional-grade headphone outputs with switchable modes of operation for high-impedance or high-sensitivity headphones and up to four independent headphone mixes
  • Headphone outputs can be repurposed as additional balanced/unbalanced line-level outputs
  • Four dedicated, balanced 1/4" line outputs
  • USB-C for 12 x 8 digital tracking and bus power
  • ADAT input expands input channel count with 8 extra channels of digital audio
  • USB loopback, MIDI 5-pin DIN in and out, and DC-coupled 1/4" outputs for CV control of synths and FX
Real Analog Enhancement Inspired by The SSL 4000 Series (4K) Console
SSL has a history of innovation in analog electronics and console design. Whether it's the sound of the classic 242 and 292 EQ circuits, the punch of the legendary SSL Bus Compressor, or the incredible bandwidth and sonic accuracy of the groundbreaking SuperAnalogue designed mic amps and consoles, SSL is always moving forward with analog. Legacy 4K is an all-analog enhancement effect inspired by the character of an SSL 4000 Series console (often referred to as 4K). It distills two essential characteristics of the 4K sound into a single circuit. Engaging the Legacy 4K circuit introduces a forward yet musical-sounding high-frequency EQ boost, adding some excitement to your vocal or instrument. Secondly, add some subtle analog distortion with finely tuned harmonic content, to bolster any sound with more edge and personality.

Tuned for Enhanced Bass Response
The drivers and headphone design work together to provide a sonic signature tuned for enhanced bass performance. With a frequency response of 15 Hz to 20 kHz, the ATH-M20x can reproduce a full spectrum of tones.
Over-Ear, Sound-Isolating Design
The ATH-M20x utilizes a circumaural design that contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments. This over-ear, closed-back style is optimal for reducing bleed and separating you from outside sounds.
15° Swiveling Earcups
Equipped with 15° swiveling earcups, the ATH-M20x ensures a great fit.

The high impedance option for headphones is great. The 4K feature has mixed reviews but it's a great creative option to have. The build and knobs feel good good. Overall, I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this product.

Are the outputs assignable or they all send the same Mix out?
Asked by: Emmanuel
On the Solid State Logic SSL 12 USB Audio Interface, Outputs 1 and 2 are intended for the main monitor output and Outputs 3 and 4 can be used for an alternative set of monitors which can be controlled by the Monitor knob when the ALT button is engaged. It is possible to create independent mixes for the Headphone A and B Outputs, as well as for the Line 3 and 4 Outputs. The Line 3 and 4 Outputs will allow the signal to be routed to Outputs 3 and 4. When the output channel is stereo linked, a single set of controls for Pan, Level, and Mute are provided. However, when the output channel is split into dual-mono, independent level controls appear for Output 3 and Output 4.
