Is the black cap on the pneumatic cylinder removable? I can't fit the seat on.
It is removable. As mentioned, it can be done with a couple of clamps or wrenches. I managed to do it bare-handed by twisting and rocking it... but I'm stubborn.
It's odd though... I've seen these caps on office chairs and such, they're usually just a thin cap. This one is clearly purpose-made, molded thick hard plastic. Seems very overpowered. Then again, it's the thing preventing the tube from extending in the package if it were to get bumped just right. who knows.

No, it not at all possible and secondly this stool does go down very low at all. Its well made, but I would never give it 10 more like a 3.
